Works well with Paint by Numbers.
I am doing a Paint by Numbers canvas, and purchased this because when I tried to apply normal Gesso that it overwrote the numbers and lines and I could not see what was happening underneath. This Clear Gesso is high quality and works perfectly. It does not obscure the numbers or lines in any way, and I am able to do 2 coats now, which is what I want.

Works perfectly
I got this for helping to make sure my new mosou black paint bonded to the wood when doing laser engraving projects. It works perfectly. There's not much more to say besides that. If you need a matte finish primer, this is a good buy. If not, then it's not. I'll absolutely be buying it again when I run out.

Good stuff for preparing paper for soft pastels
Good, soft pastel paper is very expensive, and I have some cheaper watercolor paper I wanted to use for my soft pastels. I heard on YouTube that you can use gesso to simulate pastel paper, so I experimented and tried this on the watercolor paper. This gesso worked like a charm, and has just enough "tooth" to make pleasing results on my watercolor paper. I also am a watercolor artist, and like to layer pastels in certain areas of my paintings, but found that I can only get about 2-3 layers, depending on the color. (I use high- quality soft pastels.) If I coat the watercolor painting with gesso, I find I can do about 6 layers very nicely. This helps so much to make pastel paper at a fraction of the cost, and a little goes a long way, so the jar should last a good amount of time.

I’ll Never Do Another Paint-by-Number Without This
The media could not be loaded. Clear gesso is now a non-negotiable part of my paint-by-number process. I use a big, fat acrylic brush to apply it, a cheap one, since this stuff goes on with a glue-like texture that absolutely will not play nice with anything you care about. Once dry, the surface develops what artists politely call “tooth,” which in this case feels like rubbing your hand across a chalkboard while someone whispers unsettling facts about sand.Is it texturally cursed? Slightly. Does it completely transform how well paint grips the canvas? Absolutely. With one coat, my paints stay where I put them, the lines don’t bleed, and I use far fewer layers to get solid, even coverage. That includes covering the printed outlines and numbers that span the entire canvas. It does slightly mute the background color, which gave me a moment of pause the first time I used it. But the lines and numbers stayed sharp, and since the entire surface gets painted over, it turned out to be a complete non-issue.This won’t make you a better painter, but it will make the whole experience feel less like a struggle and more like something you might voluntarily do again._______The attached photo obviously isn’t of the product itself. It’s clear. What would that even look like? But it does show the results. I’m also including a video so you can see how well it works in action.

Way too much tooth
If your project needs tooth, then this is the kind for you. However, I will not be buying this one again as there is way too much tooth for my painting, I'm not a fan. There's a lot of texture going on that I don't want under my paints.

Has a grainy finish and I like it as it has a grip on the pastels.
I was surprised to find that it has a grainy finish but it great for the pastels, it holds them well.

This gesso is great! I use it mostly on wood
I use this gesso so I don't have a white background. I can lightly tint it with color or leave it clear. Don't brush over it as it is drying or it will film up. Have patience and wait between coats, like the directions say. It seals wood, canvas, board, and paper well. I recommend it for anyone as an alternative to rabbit skin glue.
