Works well with some, non-obvious, aspects.
Exactly what I wanted. Costs twice as much as their cheaper green laser pointer but is much better made, plus it takes a standard 18650 battery. Why is that important? If I'm in the field doing astronomy work and the charge gives out would I rather pop in a fully charged spare 18650 and be working instantly or seek for a place to plug in the charger and wait for it to charge? Also the pointers with built in charging usually have an awkward connector such as a USB A on the end or a cable that requires a dust cap that often comes off and then dirt gets in making charging difficult. Some use the obsolete Micro USB connector.I won't use the pocket clip nor included charger. I use a better external charger to charge all of my 18650 batteries simultaneously. I'd rather the power switch was momentary but that is not a deal breaker. The crystal pattern generator works well but has no practical value and if you screw it in too tightly you may have trouble unscrewing it since it rotates to get different patterns. If that happens a tiny bit of anaerobic thread sealant might stop it from rotating but try not to get it on the threads so you can still remove it. I'll never use it beyond initial curiosity. I’ll also never use a laser pointer to irritate my pet and potentially damage their vision. If you must, use a lower power red one. These devices are not toys. Think twice (or more) before giving one of these to a child. If you want one to use a laser to light matches, burn things or point at aircraft you need to find something more productive to do.Here's the ideal setup for me. I use a belt case that holds the laser pointer, a flashlight and two 18650 batteries that fit into either the flashlight or the laser pointer. The crystal diffraction doodah will fit in too if you must have it. All are high quality and work reliably.- Case: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01I5GSK1G?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1- Green laser pointer: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DJS15VWP?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title- Holder for two 18650 batteries (and crystal diffraction doodah if you must) - McMaster-Carr 2108T127 Only $1.47 but shipping will cost plenty ($10 ?) so best to order with other hardware needs. Please comment if you find a source with cheaper shipping.Flashlight - Nitecore MH-11 (link is too long to post or use https://shorturl.at/xYVPo) Why is this my favorite flashlight? Compact, rechargeable in the flashlight or you can use a charged 18650 battery. Most importantly, it is not in the competition to see if you can put a bright spot on the sun or burn out the on/off switch due to excessive amperage. On it’s brightest setting it is plenty bright but Nitecore seems to be the only flashlight manufacturer that realizes that sometimes you need a reliable dim flashlight (not just one with failing batteries). It has several selectable brightness setting you can step through until you find one that meets your needs. A press on the power switch selects each setting. A long hold shuts it off so that when you turn it on again it will be at that brightness setting. The dimmer settings make it ideal for astronomy and ushering work and lower brightness settings dramatically extend the battery life.Clearly a lot of time and effort went into coming up with this solution. Your kilometrage may vary. Not a cheap solution but worth it. If this review saves you time (and time is money, right?) it may be worth the cost to you too.

Green Laser Pen
Finally....a good laser! Green is much better than the red lasers, because it shows up great during the day. At night, you can see this for super long distances. Great for scaring away unwanted pesky wildlife from your property. Just use it wisely to not hurt wildlife with the powerful laser. Just wiggle the beam around them to send them scurrying. Also good to pinpoint objects. WARNING....DO NOT POINT ANY LASER AT ANYONE'S EYES, VEHICLES, PLANES, etc!!!! The added screw on piece creates very cool patterns that are fun to experiment with.

It works for geese
So far so good! We haven’t had a lot of geese lately, but the ones who choose to lounge on our bank are bothered by it enough to leave. They came back 2 more times and each time I pointed at them and they left.Update after regular use is that the geese do not like this green laser. It was easy to see in daylight for us. We haven’t seen them on our property since using it. We have seen them a few doors down though on neighbors banks. Our grass is starting to grow where they sunbathed and we don’t have to contend with their messy deposits. It’s worth it. I let our HOA architectural committee member know about our success with it since people feel forced to use physical barriers along the banks of our shared pond.

Not as powerful as I thought.
I'm a little disappointed. It's not as powereful as I thought it would be from the description. The one it is replacing was considerably more powerful (unfortunatley it is no longer available). This one is a a well made product though. Works fine but less powerful.

Everything you need to know about the laser. My honest review
I bought this laser for the promise of waterproofing and that it takes the same batteries as my flashlight and headlamp - great if you're hiking and all of your devices take the same battery types. I hike a lot and wanted this laser as an emergency signal to help search and rescue locate me should I for whatever reason get lost or injured. Having one of these to shine into the high tree canopy and out into the night sky to draw attention to my direction would be paramount to my survival and a quick rescue.I've organized a quick pros and cons highlighting the best and worst about the laser below, then provided details at the end. Here is what I've found so far:PRO's:1. So far, this is true to the description as a high power laser pointer. It shines brightly on whatever it touches and draws the eye at night.2. *The battery capacity can be upgraded by replacing with a 3600MAH or higher battery giving you around 12 hours of constant use.3. Efficiency is excellent as it doesn't have a high power draw like other high-power lasers.4. Price is a little high for what you get, but not terrible.CON's1. **THIS IS NOT A WATERPROOF LASER AT ALL!! (More about that below)2. Bare bones laser pointer. This is about as basic as you get.3. The laser can maybe handle a short drop or two, but I feel would be more sensitive and fragile given the materials and design.4. ***The case that comes with it and the interior foam is about as cheap as you can get. (More on that below)Now let's talk about those details from my above mentions. Above I have starred the items I'm giving details about in order.*1. Extending the battery is paramount for longer operating time. The laser I bought came with a generic 1800mah battery. Decent for regular operating.**2. There is absolutely NO way this laser can claim to be waterproof or even water resistant. For starters there are no gaskets or seals on this thing anywhere - not even oil or lube around the threads where it screws together! It should be fine if it gets sneezed on, but there's literally nothing stopping moisture or water from entering into this unit.***3. The case and Interior foam made me literally Laugh Out Loud. The case is designed to look cool, but the plastic is so cheap it offers as much protection as if you put the laser pointer in a paper bag and rolled it up. The interior foam is so cheap, it had already lost some its structure by the time I received the laser and I opened the package. So let's face it, the case and foam are a gimmick. Also the side fastening clips don't stay latched and the case hinge will snap and break quickly if you attempt to use it to protect your laser as the product description suggests.Final thoughts: Will I keep it? Yes. They did one thing well, and that's the quality of the laser beam. The design of the body, tail switch and other interior components could be better for the price being asked. There are other lasers that look similar and are lower in price, but aren't as well crafted and don't give as good wavelength or beam quality. As of this post I feel this is one of the best options even though it doesn't check all of my boxes or meet all of my minimum expectations. Yes, yes... I'm settling because there isn't anything better. To "waterproof" this thing for emergency use, I recommend putting it in a ziplock freezer bag and stashing it in your hiking pack. It's better than nothing and if I do find myself in a dire situation and need to use the laser, this thing had better work! I hope this review helps. To the manufacturer: Please get this laser some gaskets and a waterproofing certification, otherwise your claim of water resistance is clearly misleading.
