Good for kids
There aren't any instructions so I was very disappointed when we first plunged it in and there weren't any stars on the ceilings or walls. It was kind of faded shadows, but the lamp was pretty. Leave it to an 8 year old to take things apart, and he discovered that the egg shape is removable. The stars now shine everywhere in the room. You have a good combo of colors white, blue, red and a combo of colors. I like that you can set the timer at 5 minute intervals to receive a time that is good for your child to go to sleep. However, I also purchased this as a "panic" light for when my son was super scared. I wanted him to hit a button and turn it on while I came to his room. It does not work that way. First you turn on power, then you set the time, then you turn on the light. Not good for a panic situation. My son can use it, but not when he's had a bad dream. Otherwise, I really like the light.

The effect in my baby boy's room is REALLY cool! We set the timer so that it stays ...
So, this thing was available on a lightning deal, and, on a whim, I picked it up for just a little bit over $15. I didn't really expect much, considering that it had a fair number of low reviews. But it was relatively cheap, so I figured that I'd give it a try. (After I had checked out, I was kind of worried that I had made a mistake). I was actually really surprised when it came! The effect in my baby boy's room is REALLY cool! We set the timer so that it stays on all night, so it serves as a nightlight for when we have to wake up in the middle of the night to feed him. I was really surprised at how much my boy likes it, too! We've had it a couple of months, now, and he still loves to watch the lights on the walls and ceiling. In fact, he likes watching them so much that it has often served to distract him from crying and forget about whatever it was that was upsetting him. I do see that some other reviews had problems with its reliability, but I have not, so far. I've had no problems with it at all. I hope that it DOES last, because it's served our needs very well, so far! But, at this point, I'd probably buy another, if it come up on another discounted deal. I think that it would look really cool to have another one set up on the other side of the room, running simultaneously (and, in case this one breaks!)

Shows up well!
Lights are bright and show well on our dark colored walls as well as light colored ceilings.

Fun Nightlight!!
This nightlight is amazing! It had multiple light combinations of red, green, and blue. The colors are bright and good for a child. It also spins if you like that (we don’t). I took away one star because you have to turn it on and then manually set the timer in increments of 5 minutes. Total pain to do daily but my kid is great so I do it.

Some improvements, some disappointments
We got one for our 1st kiddo 4 years ago, and a new one this month (feb 2022). Some things are better, other worse. The remote is much better because you don't have to line it up perfectly with the front screen every time to get to to work. Much better signal now. As long as it's pointed towards the thing it doesn't matter where in the room you hold it.The white light used to make stars that are white much fuzzier around the edges than the colored lights. Now they're all equally sharp. But I think all of them are too bright now.The music included in the first one was MUCH better. I still hated the inclusion of a Christmas song, and the thunder storm one was too loud, but at least the rest of the tracks were good. We plugged it in to the computer and took out the tracks we didn't like. But the music on the new one is awful. Tinny, lower quality production, and the songs just aren't as nice. The two units do share one song in common, Canon in D, but the old version went on and on for several minutes (like it should) and had a satisfying ending, while the new one is half as long and ends in a far less musical manner. It actually annoyed my 1yo enough that she fussed every time the song repeated. (I just put that track or the Mozart track on repeat because the other music sucks. We plan to wipe it and use the music from the old one.)I still have a few general complaints about this player: the LED panel is way too bright. The buttons on the front are almost impossible to read in a dim nursery environment. The colorful stars can't just be switched off at the press of a button, so you have to cycle through all the color combinations to the end to make them go away if you're still listening to the music or enjoying the white stars. That said, this is one of the better of this type of machine out there. Our son loves his, and our daughter is always gesturing at hers and making unintelligible sounds (I assume she's saying good things, but until the words come it's a mystery). I recommend it, but while you wait for it to come find yourself some mp3s you like to load onto the memory card before you use it.

Dangerous
We have only used this for 3 months and not only has it broken, but it almost started a fire in my toddlers room. I went to turn it on before bed and it wouldn’t turn on. When I went to pull the plug out of the wall, the plug was burning hot to the point you couldn’t grab it. We were lucky that our toddler didn’t touch it, let alone the risk of it catching on fire in his room. We tried to get another or use batteries only and it drains the batteries in one use. It’s junk that is extremely dangerous.
