Excellent product , assembly takes time and patience
The gym itself is well made and looks like it will last for many years. Good brand and good weight capacity. I would recommend it over cheaper gyms as it is an established brand who will be on the market for years to come. Assembly was a challenge. You really need 2 people, not for the weight bit to check your work and identify parts. The small parts are on numbered cards but don't totally match the instructions. Pictures on the instructions are very detailed bit poor . Should be more exploded views rather than one large picture with many dotted lines to decipher. Takes about 7 hours to build. Once you have done one you could do a second in about 3-4 hours simply because the instructions are a bit ambiguous in places. Overall a good but. If you are not good with assembly pay someone to do it for you even if it costs a fair bit.

It's ok but this model was discontinued 12 years ago!
Don't buy this. It's over 12 years out of date and therefore it's impossible to get spares from York.

York multigym - a buyer's guide?
I purchased this model on the grounds of good/very good reviews on several websites, and its relatively compact dimensions, particularly height (196cm).The assembled product allows a good range of exercises to be performed, and a 100kg weight stack should be more than enough for most users. If you can manage to build flatpack furniture, you can assemble this machine. The process is broken down into a number of steps, each one having well packaged and generally clearly labelled parts. If in doubt, refer to the detailed listing in the instructions booklet, as there was a small number of misprints. The cabling instructions could be clearer - this was the only particularly tricky part. I would recommend a second person to help, if only to get bolts etc out of the packaging, which was tedious! Tools are included but ratchet spanners (17mm and 19mm) or a socket set will save a lot of time tightening the 40 or so nuts.Once assembled, the seat is in a fixed position. Consequently users might find the positioning a little strange at first, if used to free weights. Likewise, the weights may not move as far as you’d expect for some exercises on account of the limited rise of the weight stack. Be prepared to remove foam covers to allow easier use of the gym - for example from the leg extension set up, to access the seat more comfortably for upper body exercises. Weight increments are 5kg. A pity there is not a smaller increment provided, e.g. detachable 1 or 2.5kg blocks.Safety: Read the documentation, but also note the main stabilisers have small plates which you need to put your feet on when working at the front of the multi gym. It will topple backwards on a deadlift, and some other exercises if you don’t, as I found out! (It probably wouldn’t go over, but could be a scary experience.)It was disappointing that the accompanying pictorial exercise guide shows a different machine in use. This wouldn’t phase anyone who’s used multi gyms in the past, but isn’t helpful for novice users. You can carry out more exercises on the multigym than the pictures suggest. If set up somewhere likely to get very humid (poorly ventilated shed, for example), watch out for signs of corrosion - WD40, or similar, is an easy fix.Overall, I’m very pleased with the product and the negative points highlighted above are relatively minor.

Excellent product and VFM
Excellent product from good manufacturer and amazing value for money. I assembled alone and took me about 5 hours. Says it needs two people but can be done alone. All the parts are set out clearly and assembly is logical but you have to carefully follow the directions. When fully built I had a few small things wrong - the cables took me a couple of efforts but soon fixed things. I cracked one of the smoked plastic vertical screens as they are bit thin and vulnerable. However overall brilliant, does lots of different things and fairly stable on garage floor (I have backed against the wall for safety).

A good starter home gym.
The only thing I dislike about this gym is the small range of movement of the 100kg stack. It isn't a problem though because there is a chain included so you can lengthen any strokes or pull of what ever exercise your doing. It just takes a bit of getting used to. Other than that for the money it's pretty awesome. Also make sure you have at least 4 hours spare to assembleThis beast because it is quite a process. My advise is to read each step many times because typical man that I am, thinking I know everything, I skipped a few key vital steps and had to take a huge chunk of the machine apart again before I got back on track.

Good basic multi-gym, but nightmare to assemble.
This is a basic multi-gym, which allows you to do a range of exercises. It is quite limited in what you can do, for example it allows you to work the front of your legs but not the back. The weights (up to 100kg) move reasonably freely, with a bit of wobble noticeable. If you are hoping to use this on it's own, I would recommend either getting a more expensive one which allows more options or having some free weights as well.I would have given it four stars, as it sits in the corner in a nice compact manner and does largely what it is supposed to. However, I have taken off another star because it was a self-assembly nightmare. I know some of the reviews say it is not too bad as the nuts and bolts come packaged in the order you need them, divided up into units corresponding to the 16 steps on the instructions. So it could have been a lot worse, but there were still places where I went wrong because the instructions are a set of diagrams with virtually no accompanying text and I did not always find them easy to follow. Some of the other reviews have said it takes 6 - 8 hours to put together, and this roughly what I found. I may have taken longer than this, as I made a few errors and had to repeat those steps. I never have 8 hours free time available in one go so it took me quite a few evenings to complete it, during which time I grew to really hate the process. Unfortunately there is no way round this. Although most of the components fitted together well, there were a couple of pieces which did not measure up perfectly and involved quite a struggle to get the holes aligned. Be prepared for this.
