So far, am very pleased!
We had an old Hayward chlorine generator in the house we purchased, and it never worked right. But I had no idea how old it was or who had been doing what to it. I would get one salt reading from it, a totally different reading from a hand-held digital salt meter, and yet another totally different reading from Leslie's. I had no idea which one to believe, and as a result it was difficult to keep the pool water algae free and looking clear. On the old Hayward, the light to add salt was always on, no matter how much salt you put into it. Finally, it got to the point where it would not generate chlorine and algae was taking over. I said enough was enough and started looking for a replacement. Despite the problems I was having with the Hayward I inherited, I never really considered buying a chlorine generator other than a Hayward. I like the fact that you could return it within 30 days if you bought it through Amazon. Because the new one used the same plumbing as the old one, and even look almost identical to the old one, installation was easy. So far, I have been extremely pleased and my salt water pool looks great. As it turns out, the salt reading on the digital salt meter and the Hayward are very close. I have a 3-year warranty on the Hayward, which is also reassuring. The only negative thus far is the Hayward owner's manual, which just about requires you to be a chemical scientist to understand their discussion of pool water chemistry. But I am not too concerned about that. The bottom line and best gauge of the health of your pool water is how it looks and whether you have any algae problems. If it looks clear and sparkles, and if you have no algae, you have 90% of the problem beat. I may come to a different conclusion later down the line, but the Hayward chlorine generator I bought on Amazon has made a huge difference in the amount of time I spend on the pool, the amount of money I spend on salt, and my general happiness with using the pool.

Wonderful
It was an easy install and my pool is looking great again. I only needed 6 plates but went with 9. It's worth the money oversizing because it doesn't have to work as hard splitting the salt molecules.

Unreliable, no product support
After owning the Aquarite for about 14 months it started with all the problems for no particular reason. I run my pump 12 hours per day. When the pump is off at night the Aquarite does not remember what level the average salt was when the pump comes on in the morning. If the reading drops below 2400, the Aquarite no longer generates chlorine. So when the pump has been off for 12 hours the average salt reading ends up being anywhere from 700-900. When it turns on again it might get to 2400 after 5 hours and start making some chlorine again. The only way to fix it is to reset the salt level every morning or to run my pump 24 hours per day. This is the fix that was given to me by Hayward. I’ve called them twice. They are clueless and act as if they have never heard of this problem. (I have done all the maintenance that has been suggested like cleaning the cell, verifying that my salt level is in fact >3000 etc) All you have to do is look it up on the internet and plenty of customers are complaining about the Aquarite not holding the salt level when the pump is off. The local Hayward tech has no idea what to do so they are completely unresponsive to the multiple emails and visits to their store requesting a service call. But who can blame them when Hayward is ignoring the problem and not providing any solutions.

Great Chlorinator with 1 flaw.
Now that I have this chlorinator running properly it works great. After the installation, I had a problem where every day when the pump came on the chlorinator would flash "low salt" and "inspect cell" and was not generating salt. After several calls with Hayward support the problem was identified and a work around implemented. I had installed the chlorinator power input to the same source as the pump as per Hayward manual. My pump however, is a Jandy Variflow and the timer is inbuilt. There is 220 volts power on the pump even when it is not running. This means there is 220 volts power on the chlorinator even when the pump is off. It stops generating when no flow is detected and restarts when the pump restarts and creates a flow. The issue is that the memory inside the chlorinator "decays" when there is no flow and the power remains on. When it restarts it needs to be reset to function properly. The workaround was to put an external timer on the chlorinator. It now works great. If you have a pump with an inbuilt timer you need to be aware of this issue

Easy install, easy operation.
The initial set up was simple and straightforward. Have only had it installed for 2 weeks before a crisp fall change arrived. (Had gunite pool replastered prior) Looking forward to warmer weather already.

Easy to Change Out
My previous system failed after nearly 20 years and it was time for an update/replacement. I easily disconnected the old unit, connected this one, and my pool looks great! Replacement is easy even if you aren't the most handy individual. From start to finish, total time took about 30 minutes to complete. Works like a champ.

Salt water is the way to go!
Installed earlier in the summer and it seems to be working perfectly generating a steady supply of chlorine. Very easy to install and use. Very happy with my purchase.
