Safari door handle review and installation
The handle works great after I replaced the plastic linkage snap with the one from the old handle. The new one was too big and never would have stayed in place. This installation was very hard and I had to figure out how every thing went in and worked without rubbing against the window track and door lock linkage parts. No videos or good information was available on the web that was helpful. You could not get an image with a camera or a video of this installation because everything was inside the door frame and hidden from view. You have to feel to find, remove and replace the two nuts ( I think they were 10mm) that hold the door handle on. I did do some grinding on the moving parts of this handle for extra clearance and used some good waterproof grease to lube the working parts. One thing I can tell ya is to make sure you put the working parts of the handle (from the outside) around and on the other side of the covered door lock linkage. This is not an easy task, but it can be done. You can get a peek through the plastic hole cover next to the door latch. I did loosen the latch by taking 3 star screws out for a little better view, but don't try to disengage any of the other door linkage. It is not necessary. After installation, It works smooth and easy. GOOD LUCK with your installation.Hollwood

Perfect fit and function
No more floppy handle for me! This handle fits perfectly and feels solid and strong. As others have mentioned, it is difficult to install. The bottom 10mm nut comes off easily because you can reach it through the access hole below the latching mechanism. The upper 10mm nut is harder to get to. Disconnecting the linkage rod from the key lock gives you enough room to put a wrench on the upper 10mm nut. I couldn't get a box end on it, so a stubby 10mm open end did the trick.

Fits and works just fine. Little hint for installation
Fits and works just fine.Little hint for installation. Do not need to disconnect or remove the lock cylinder from key hole beneath the handle.Bottom 10mm mounting nut is easy to access, so fasten it first when installing. The 10mm nut on top is a whole new matter, may be difficult to thread it onto the bolt because its pretty much impossible to get two fingers in there (no pun). After a few failed attempts at that, I used a little bit of super glue to glue the nut onto one finger as was able to get it on the bolt, just don't use too much glue, as you'll need to pull your finger free afterwards. Hope this helps. Finally, on handles that feel like they are about to fail, try spraying WD40 inside the hinge of the handle. Will make the handle work like new again. I found out about this a little too late.

Works great, smooth, feels good.
This is the third door handle I've put on my van. The OEM was broken when someone tried to break in to the van, and the replacement was an inexpensive (non-OEM) part that always felt kind of weak and "scratchy" (i.e. when you pulled the handle, it felt as if there was sand in the mechanism) and just was not confidence-inspiring. After a couple of years, the replacement handle literally snapped at the hinge area, so I looked for another replacement (sigh!). I saw this Depo part on Amazon, and the reviews were good, along with a good price, so I bought it. I got it installed fairly quickly (practice makes perfect!) and I am absolutely pleased with the operation. It feels smooth and strong - no wobbling, scratching or other odd behaviors, and the door opens with a very nice light touch, compared to the previous handle. I'd highly recommend this product.

Better than DormanĀ® at 1/2 the Price!
Even with my shop's supplier discount this Depo branded exterior handle came in cheaper than OEM so I gave it a try. WOW! 100% metal, minus the linkage retainer clip, and even that's a nicely resilient nylon instead of brittle plastic. Install is equal for all of these as one must remove the two retainer nuts and linkage wire (to the operator) so five stars for this one and any others in that respect. I'm on Astro/Safari #9 over the years so removing a door panel isn't really a big deal and offers a good chance to properly clean the panel anyway. Youtube University has folks cutting a hole in the door inset for install but honestly that method is equally tedious and more expensive than doing it right. I guess they never heard of a wobble socket or 10mm spanner wrench. Two 10 mm nuts need to be pulled from your old handle to be reused for this one (and all of them) as nuts aren't included. GREAT PRODUCT! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

It is a perfect replacement That's the best thing about it fit and finish is great ,but it's made of the same weak pot metal as the original handle and if hangs up at all will break like the OEM part at the hinge. It was a defective part when GM installed them at the factory. I have replaced three driver door handles on my Safari in 6 years and two on a previous Astro. There are millions of GM mini vans on the road and if some one ...ANYONE would make an all steel handle like this as a replacement they would be instant millionaires!
