Creamy, rich, luxurious emollient !
Alaffia Unrefined Everyday Shea Butter (Unscented) - Shea Butter is an all natural, vegetal skin protectant- Entirely plant-derived, no animal, synthetic nor petro-chemicals. THIS is the 100% pure, simple, fresh, unrefined Shea Butter you want! Since Shea Butter is a natural vegetal product, with no preservatives added, it must be *freshly* harvested, manufactured, packaged, transported, & marketed. (Shea Butter has a shelf life of about 3 years. It can and will go rancid when stored improperly or too long.) Freshness matters! Other suppliers may leave their Shea Butter sitting in hot warehouses for prolonged periods, pending bulk sale to highest bidder... In contrast, Alaffia ensures that each batch is freshly produced, and each tub is fresh-dated. Shea is a nut, and the oil (butter) is rendered (separated from the nut) via a boiling process. The nose knows: You can always smell the light, fresh, nut-like aroma of this brand, every time you open a jar & apply it to skin (the aroma dissipates a few minutes after smoothing the butter into skin). Everyday Shea's unscented fragrance is light & fresh, slightly nut-like (as it's supposed to be).(PS- The names "Alaffia" & "Everyday Shea" are used interchangeably here, since Alaffia is the parent company, & Everyday Shea is the subsidiary- In this review, they both mean this same exact product!)Yay! We all know of the Shea Butter craze in the USA over the past decade or so. We've all read about the pro's / con's of the various varieties of Shea- Traditional West African, or "Golden" Shea vs. East African, or the more rare "White" Shea- Who can keep it all straight?Thankfully, we don't have to anymore- Alaffia has done the job for us- This is the centuries-old traditional West African Shea Butter, Unrefined (meaning *not* chemically processed!) This is more important than one might realize at first, b/c the chemical purification process bleaches the butter from it's natural yellow-gray color, to a pure white to off-white; And eliminates it's natural, light, nut-like & light smoky aroma- Always, (always!) renders a "neutered butter" which is devoid of it's natural healing & anti-aging properties, and leaves the butter infused with residual harsh chemicals! So, you get a bland butter, absent all it's amazing therapeutic properties, plus severely harsh chemical bleachants & deodorants. I've tried a half-dozen brands of Shea Butter (there are endless suppliers, brands, & formulations available)- This is far & away the loveliest, creamiest, smoothest unprocessed Shea Butter I've ever enjoyed. It's an absolute skin-saver for us, year-round. (MD's recommend it as a skin barrier-protectant, for ppl. suffering Exzema or Psoriasis.) Shea Butter absorbs *into* the skin (vs. sitting ON skin all day long)- And continues to protect against moisture loss, long after the initial greasy feel has disappeared. Shea protects against cold & wind-burn in extreme / brutal winter climates, where the frigid outdoor cold, compounded by heated indoor air, suck every molecule of moisture from the air, & punish skin & hair. The last thing I want on my wind-burned, chapped face, are chemically synthesized skin products...Alaffia Shea Butter is *not* chemically processed! Rather, all of Shea Butter's good characteristics remain intact, with no residual chemicals in the Butter! However, (thankfully!) Alaffia does ensure that the razor-sharp shards of the Shea Nut shells / impurities are filtered out- This is easily achieved while Shea is in it's liquid form during harvesting, simply by straining it through cheesecloth when it is being rendered (boiled) to separate the fatty oils from the Shea nuts. (I've purchased other brands of "Raw" Shea, that have skipped this step- You don't appreciate how critical this filtering step is, until you rub a moisturizing butter into the skin, which contains razor-sharp shards of hard nut shells!) Thankfully- Alaffia provides the Shea Butter, and nothing but the Shea Butter!Lastly- Shea Butter is intensely rich! A very little Butter goes a very long way! A single jar will last months (or longer!), depending upon usage. Despite intensive R&D, & multi-gazillion $$ corporate ad-campaigns, no lab-synthesized product ever even comes close to replicating the vast array of skin & hair protectant, healing, and anti-aging beneficial properties of natural Shea Butter. (It's even a natural lightweight SPF!) YAY - I can afford to buy the world's best skin creme! It's a steal, and an absolute luxury !!! ;b BUY!

Good Stuff...Among the better Shea Butters
My favorite Shea Butter. Alaffia is consistent. Been using this for 3, 4 years or more now. I can tell a difference when I dont use it. I have dry skin. So, this along with coconut oil and lotion is my regiment.Does a great job of moisturizing my skin. Can't really use it alone because it is a lil "greasy". But, you can manage that. Seems to be a true Shea Butter without a bunch of junk ingredients. Scent is there. But it's fairly neutral IMO.Love the mission as well.

Great shea butter
I use this straight out of the jar and in blends for skin and hair. This is a high quality authentic, unrefined shea butter with the characteristic aroma of good unrefined shea. I like the generous size of the jar and the screw on cap -perfect for frequent use, but not so large as to make daily use cumbersome. I love that Alaffia's shea butter is certified Fair Trade.

Great Shea Butter - but no real fragrance of passion fruit
This is good quality Shea Butter. Do not expect a lotion. This is more the consistency of a bar inside the jar. It works fantastic though. I had the opportunity to use it to moisturize my feet and one day to use it on a blister. The blister was nearly healed the next day and no longer painful. Of course, the best use of Shea Butter in terms of blisters is to apply it BEFORE you get a blister. If your shoes are rubbing or a little tight, rub some of this on your foot and it actually prevents blisters! The quality of this shea butter seems great. However, I can barely detect any fragrance at all - and passionfruit - I don't even smell anything like that. I am well-known in my circle of friends for having a very sensitive sense of smell - often smelling things others do not notice... yes, even other women. I did deduct a star for this, but I am still a happy customer. The fragrance was really just for fun and I bought this for myself and not as a gift. Just keep it in mind if you are really set on getting a good passion fruit fragrance.I know there are many, many uses for Shea Butter - The reason I chose this one was the Fair Trade label and that I wanted a non-lotion Shea Butter to use specifically to prevent blisters. I got a "Blister Prevention" stick for $15 for a tube that was about 5" long and 2" across. I got this entire tub for the same price! I do travel, but I plan to just scoop some out with a spoon and put it into a little travel jar.I realized if I only used this for blister prevention it would last me years, so I decided to use it as a foot/leg moisturizer as well :)Although it does seem greasy when you first start to apply it, it doesn't seem greasy after you rub it in a little bit. Furthermore, I have never seen a grease smear on my clothes or any marks on my shoes.

Skip It
When first opening the product, it had a scoop missing, it looked like a nose indent. I was suspicious so I returned it and had Amazon send me another. The second order also had the indents which looked like it was caused by someone's fingers. I assumed that this was just the product consistency when packaged due to it being a more natural product so I kept it.When actually applying the product, it was very hard to spread in comparison to other cocoa butters. The smell is awful, reminds me of wet hay or something you'd smell in a barn.Unfortunately, this one was a waste of money.

Real Deal
This product is the real stuff. It melts when you put it on your skin and it soaks in. It (keeps your skin hydrated. It is great for all skin types. I have even used it on my scalp and hair. It gave it a nice shine. It is not a wet water base. It's great for all skin types. It has a light scent that will fade away.
