Nice product. Box was overkill.
Very solid, well made. But I thought Amazon sent me 50 of them with the size box they sent it in. See picture. Crazy.

a high quality tool for those who can wield it for appropriate work
This picker-upper is a great quality tool for those whose purpose is more industrial and heavy duty than mine. I just didn’t make a good choice. At 5 foot-9 I wanted a longer than average picker-upper to decrease my bending-over back fatigue. This tool is very high quality and rugged and should be very long lasting. However, I’m an old lady and I had some problems using it.Surprisingly, it’s too long! To drop the picked-up trash into my bag I had to push the bag well away from my body or twist my wrist and far extend my arm to pass the trash to my other hand. Very hard on the arthritic wrists. The trigger seems to be mounted opposite to other pickers: it requires maximum play of the first two fingers instead of employing the palm. Not good for arthritis and I often don’t have the grip strength to close the jaws. The rubber grabbers don’t suit most of the trash I pick up: wet, heavy, slippery plastic bags in the pond and small items like bottle caps. I need grabbers that are more pincher-like. I didn't choose my picker-upper well.

Heavy duty
This reacher grabber is a must have for anyone with low back issues that still needs to get yard work done. I live in a heavily treed area and have a lumbar fusion, and this tool allows me to pickup rather large tree debris without having to bend over. I use it all the time before I mow, and am always impressed with how much this thing can grab.

Only Popeyes need apply
I was excited to use this gripper for outdoor work as my small place backs on the woods & creepy crawlies abound. I had assumed it would be easy to grab smaller logs & rocks for my gardening projects. Nope. The one-piece rod does make this gripper stronger but it’s effectiveness is minimized by the poorly designed grip which makes it more difficult to maintain enough pressure to hold onto items weighing more than half a pound, unless you have the grip strength of Popeye. My cheaper gripper does a better job holding onto items because the squeeze handle gets wider at its base, as this product’s handle grip tapers into the base. This would have been returned had I not blindly trusted it would work great in the field and thrown away the packaging.

Bad design and NOT heavy duty.
This grabber has a couple of keys flaws that only make it suitable for light duty use. The first thing is the thrust ratio between the handle and the jaws. It doesn’t take much movement of the handle to make the jaws close all the way. This looks good on paper, but the result is that the grip force between the pads is poor. You could put a toddler’s finger between the jaws and squeeze the handle with all your might and the kid would giggle at the funny game you were playing. I bought this grabber to use while on my lawnmower so I wouldn’t have to get off my mower to pick up deadfall and the occasional tool left behind. It took me three attempts to pick up a shovel due to the pads slipping off of the shovel. I wasn’t trying to pick up the entire weight of the shovel, I just wanted to pick up the handle high enough for me to grab it. The jaws just kept slipping off of the smooth surface of the shovel. Which brings up the other “flaw”. The pads are a hard rubber which makes them durable, but reduces their ability to grip. Maybe Unger should give you slip-on sleeves made of silicone rubber? I guess the tool is OK if you can get the jaws to wrap all around the item you need to pick up, but my opinion is that they’re only good for picking up soda cans and cigarette butts. I think a tool (especially one touted as “rugged”or “professional”) should work the first time every time (In this case, without having to think about how best to grab the item in your way so it only takes one attempt).

Heavy Duty Grabber 💪
This grabber is not like the ones I grew up playing around with. This is heavy duty. This is for doing work, not for playing. I use this on my lawn mower to pick up debris as I go, and flip it into if 5 gallon bucket mounted on my deck. This thing works like a charm. I have had it for a long time now, and it is extremely durable. Yes, it does cost more than others, but it's quality makes it worth it!

What did I do without this extension of my hands?
This device is amazing. I bought it to reach items stored on the top shelves of my kitchen and workshop. What I did not expect was that the rubber grips enable me to pick up anything off the floor . . . even as small as a grape. I also did not expect it be so sturdily made. I pick up small fallen limbs in my woods to break up into kindling wood. No more bending over my friends! I can pick up both small and medium diameter limbs with this handy tool.
