Great Way To Charge, But Be Prepared To Look For A New Case
First, yes, this item most likely will make your old case not work, but there are cases that will work with it, as others have noted.I just purchased this charging back cover and immediately found that due to the increased thickness, it will not work with my flip cases. I am not interested in the 'Diztronic Full Matte Black Flexible TPU Case ' case, as it is a case for the back only, there is no cover for the screen. As I keep the phone in my pocket, I want to insure that the screen cannot be scratched by anything put in my pocket, which the flip case has been doing. I have been using a flip case since the Galaxy S2, and all of my screens have never had issues, from scratching, or accidental falls. With the thickness of the battery cover, the phone would not fit into the flip case so that I could get to the power button. I can access the volume button. This annoyed me, especially since I could not find a flip case that was designed for the wireless battery back. I resolved this issue! The opening on the right side of the flip case, for the power port opening has a tiny bar going across the top. This was precisely the spot that the power button was 'hiding' behind. I simply cut this tiny bar out, leaving no 'bridge' between the two sides of the port opening. The power button was then immediately accessible! The other half is that the phone with the new back does not 'snap' down into the flip case anymore, as it sits slightly higher. The phone is held in place by the plastic ridges of the case, and the case closes o.k. You don't pick the case up, open it, and the phone falls out. I am happy with that arrangement. It does not have to be perfect, and my needs are met. I can use my flip case, and protect my screen, as I did before. And the next half of the question, YES, the phone will charge through the flip case! I do not have to take the phone out of the case to charge it. I just lay the phone on top of the charging pad and it goes to work--happiness! I do not use/like the plastic 'film' that some use to put over the screen, or the harder versions, which is why I stick with the flip open case.It is great to not have to deal with charging wires. I have a permanent spot for my charging pad and I just lay the phone down on it and pick the phone up when my phone light turns green. This eliminates the problem of the charging door cover breaking off, which many people have had an issue with, as I did also, and was given a new phone. I just decided to not go down that road again and switched to wireless charging.UPDATEJune 15, 2015I have found that yes, I can charge my Galaxy while it is in the flip case, but I have found out an issue. The charging pad light blinks yellow. I initially thought that this just meant that it was charging the phone, but now know differently. The phone is not getting the full charging capability through the flip case. The phone charges, but very slowly. I left the phone on the pad last night, and the phone had been intially at 53% of charge. This morning, after charging all night, the phone was only at 93% of charge. I took the phone out of the flip case and placed in on the pad. The pad light was green, and the phone started charging. Within 10 minutes the phone was at 100% of charge. The end conclusion here is that if you want a quick/full charge, it has to come out of the flip case. If I don't want to do this, it will charge, but will charge slower than normal. I have been doing this since I got it and really have had no issue, except for when I am in a hurry, and want it charged NOW. I can live with this situation. If I want the phone charged quickly, I will just take it out of the case, which is no big deal. For the most part, I will continue as I had been doing, charging it with the flip case still on.

Does what it says - and I love wireless charging!
Shortly after receiving a my new S5, I grew weary of the charging port cover. I understand why it's a pain - water and dust resistance, which is actually a good thing. But fiddling with the port cover seemed to me a failure waiting to happen. No wonder Amazon sells replacements. When I became aware of the wireless charging option I decided it was something to try. I learned of various third-party offerings but didn't want to potentially degrade the water/dust resistance or possibly void the warranty, so OEM seemed worth a little extra money. I ordered this and the Samsung Mini Wireless Charging Pad.Installation is a snap, no more difficult than the standard OEM back. The charging pad is plug and play. Looks nice as you would expect for a factory Samsung accessory. It is very slightly thicker, so there are very limited options for hard cases or shells available. If you have a particular hard case you are attached to, you will need to make a choice. Also a tiny bit heavier. I do not find either of these a big problem. Does not make the phone look odd or bulky in any way. I actually like the little extra heft, makes the phone feel substantial. And the benefits to me of the wireless charging far outweigh the small inconveniences.Charging works perfectly, dead simple. Using the Samsung system I have not encountered any heating problems I have seen mentioned by some, mainly non-OEM systems. Right off the charger my CPU temperature reads 93.5 and that's not hot. My impression is charging takes slightly longer (no empirical evidence to prove it) , but the convenience of not dealing with the port cover or cable more than makes up for it to me. Now whenever I'm not using the phone I just set it down on the charger and it stays charged. Answering calls or messages, I just pick it up without monkeying with a cable. Some have expressed dismay that it stops charging when the battery is full - well, good! Leaving a fully-charged battery on a charger is a bad idea. So overnight charging, in the morning my phone is at around 95%, and hasn't been charging a full battery all night. Pick up the phone to reset the charging cycle, put it back down for a few minutes and top it off. Tell me you don't pick up your phone first thing in the morning anyway! Not an issue to me, all chargers should be so smart.I have really come to like wireless charging, especially knowing my phone's environmental protection and warranty remain uncompromised. Two thumbs up, with the caveat that shopping for cases is a little harder.
