Here I shall retell my story of "The Quest to Use a Simpler Remote" with my new Sony 65" X950H. And along the way extoll the virtues of this well designed small remote.I really like the simplicity of Roku remotes. It's small, elegant, and has the essential functions for watching 90% of what I do with my TV. It orients itself in your hand nicely, with an indentation on the bottom and volume controls on the right side. It's not cluttered with buttons that we never use, like "cc" and such. You can get to all the buttons with your thumb. And they are buttons. Those click-things you can feel in the dark. It gets to the point. And, most importantly, my lady friend has a Roku at her place, and she likes being able to feel buttons in the dark.The Sony remote on the other hand, is large, has a bunch of extraneous buttons and seems sized for a very tall and very thin hand with a 9" or larger ...thumb. Which would be useful if that's how I was designed. Alas, I was born with a slightly smaller ...thumb than the Sony engineers planned for.So, to Amazon we go to find that perfect, pocket sized, Roku like remote for a man of my stature. I give you, "Universal Remote Control for Roku Player with 9 More Learning Keys to Control TV Soundbar Receiver All in One (fit for Roki 1 2 3 4Premier +Express Ultra, NOT FOR STICK & BUILY -IN ROKU TV". That's a product title only Amazon could love. Digging into the details, the ad-copy tells that all the keys are reprogrammable. Unlike some other products with much shorter titles. Poof through the magic of Amazon Prime 2-Day shipping, I have said long-titled remote in my ..err.. normal sized hands in 5 days. (COVID go figure).All seems well. Power button programs right out of the gate, Hold A+B, press power on learning remote, press power on Sony remote, nice green light to make me feel good about my purchase.Now, all good stories have a spoiler, and I'm sure you are wondering where the spoiler in this story is. Well, lucky you. Here it is.No other buttons would program. Nothing, zip, zero, nada, zilch. By hook or by crook, in a dark room with just me and the remote, far from any viewing station, infra-red boosting dark magic all around. Nothing.Internet, save me!Internet did not save me.So I take the 1/2 hour needed away from aforementioned lady-friend to embrace my inner-geek and build an Arduino IR Receiver to see what vodoo this Sony is engaged in. Power button = magic hex codes in my console. Home button = no magic, no love, a love forgone. Sony why do you not want to go home?Internet, save me!Internet: The (Sony) remote uses bluetooth for voice control (only)Strange. Perhaps that's not the whole truth. [Insert climactic music here]. On a whim, wander back into the light and sight of the new shiny TV. Which was more like a walk of shame as even the dog looked at me like the failure I had set myself up to be. "Can I use the TV for a few minutes?" ...glares. "Please?, just a few?". Poke around and dog-gone by-gum turn off that fancy Norse God with the blue teeth. Then I steal away back to Adruino-land and start mashing buttons.Golly Gee, she's a spittin’ out codes like nobody's business! I then am able to commence programming the long-winded cannot say in one breath universal remote!TLDR: The foolish Sony remote uses bluetooth AND IR to send codes. If Bluetooth is ON it will prefer it and you cannot program a learning remote with it. Turn off Bluetooth on the TV. Then your remote will spit out IR codes. You can turn on Bluetooth afterwards with no apparent ill effects.P.S. Lady friend is happy, she now has buttons to push at my place

Worked perfectly out of the box, no programming required. We had a silly remove that changed channels but did not control power or volume (why exist then?) This works for all the functions a remote should. Pretty old Vizio TV.

Why did you pick this product vs others?:This remote started giving us problems shortly after the 30 day return period expired. The buttons had to be pressed 2-3-4 or 5 times before it would react. Purchen today (two months and 12 days) after ordering. Part of the back cover popped off. I'm so fed up with this. It's going in the garbage and I will not reorder from this seller. I have been using Roku remotes for many years and have never had any problems until now.

I got this remote for the volume buttons on the side for my Roku Premier like the remote for the Roku stick in the living room has, I was still having to use the tv remote for volume. Powered on my ancient Vizio tv right from the box...the menu button was tricky....I use the sleep function on my tv, the directional buttons on the "Roku" remote would not work with the tv menu, so I reprogrammed the Sling key to the menu button, the directional button from the tv remote to the ch+ & ch- to scroll thru the menu & the "A" button to select the menu option....took less than 10min to set up....(I'd have given the 5th star if I could've gotten the directional button to program...)

Works great with a Roku and for controlling a tv. I replaced my tv with a Samsung smart tv. What they don’t tell about this remote is that you can reprogram every button on the remote. So I was able to program the buttons to replace the overly complicated Samsung remote and have only the buttons I need on this remote. No more accidentally hitting the wrong button and having to start over.

Tengo un roku ultra y una TV y el control que trajo el roku me permitía controlar el encendido, apagado y volumen de la TV y compré este control pensando que podría hacer lo mismo pero para programarlo para que haga eso necesitas el control original del televisor, yo perdí el mío y Todavia no he podido descifrar con programar este control sin usar el original de la tv.Las instrucciones son muy claras pero no explican cómo programar el control para apagar-encender el televisor y controlar el volumen de la misma si no tienes el control original.Si solo lo quieres para tu Roku o para una Roku tv funciona muy bien y viene listo para usarse.

I ordered this on a Tuesday night. It arrived early Wednesday morning. I added 2 batteries and it worked right out of the box without any programming. I have a fairly new Roku Ultra and the remote which was a rechargeable was ruined when my husband thought it had batteries in it and opened the casing. It would not take a charge after that episode. So I ordered this remote and it worked right out of the box! It came with explicit instructions on how to program it but I didn’t need to use it. And it doesn’t require my old remote to program it. Very happy with this purchase.

I initially left a bad review for this, but it works fantastic. The programming is spot on and all of the buttons work, including volume. GREAT replacement, but NOTE, you will need another Roku remote to program this new one.
