Orion 8-24mm Pro Lanthanum Zoom Eyepiece

I got tired of changing eye pieces and decided to splurge on this zoom piece with its fine optics. I can't be happier with it. It's perfect and the sharp details on Saturn the other night proved it. Even with less than ideal atmospheric condition, high humidity, etc. I was able to find Orion's Nebula at 24mm and then zoomed it all the way to 8mm and kept the nice details with minimal coma. You'll enjoy this eyepiece on a Dobsonian, I did.

Was on the hilt about buying this or a Baader. Good choice and saved a bill.

What a fantastic piece of glass. Orion really got it right. Astronomers collect eyepieces like dogs collect fleas. Astronomy has been a lifetime hobby. I have dozens of eyepieces. Right now I have an 80mm F7 refractor, 102mm F11 refractor and an 8" SCT. This eyepiece is in the sweet spot for all three scopes with the added benefit of the zoom I can increase magnification with out changing eyepieces. The eyepiece is parafocal through out the zoom range so no refocusing. It has a wide field of view and comfortable eye relief.The only negative is it's weight but it's only as heavy as my lightest 2" eyepiece. Using a good quality first surface diagonal performance is great. While keeping the weight to a minimum allowing me to use lightweight mounts without the usual vibrations from a long moment arm.

This product offers not only 8-24 power magnification in one eyepiece, but with parfocal reulting in not only variable magnication,but sharp and resolved imaging thruout all powers. This eliminates the need for multiple eyepieces and there expense. Valued tool in my optical arsenal;not cheap but well worth the expense.Highly recommended.

This has worked very well for terrestrial viewing. I haven’t used it for astrological viewing yet but I really think that it will perform well.

Excellent eyepiece. The field of view is a bit less than plossols or wide field eyepieces. But its nice to be able to zoom in and out. The extendable eyecup is ok, it could use a nice soft edge to block stray light.Optically this eyepiece is superb, easily on par with televue sharp even to the edge. I recommend one, especially for public events.
