So cozy and calming
The media could not be loaded. I really love it. In bright light up close, the logs are not 100% realistic. But at a normal viewing distance (especially in your normal lighting for a fire, which would be dim) this is stunning. There is flexibility in the log placement: so if you get bored, you could rearrange them. The velcro pads don't really hold them in place well, so if you need to move the entire unit, they will shift... no biggie, just put them back where ya want them. The sonic mister sounds are soothing in my opinion. Yes it is a slight "water drop" sound, but could easily be thought of as a light fire crackle sound. If you add a fireplace sound machine, it'll be heavenly! The coals on the bottom are not very impressive, bit still give just enough ambience. The mist fire effect is mesmerizing. No this does not mimic high flames, more of an end of the evening fire. The calming down phase, which is exactly what I want in my cozy living space. This will be integrated into a cozy movie room, so I didn't want anything too distracting. That way I can leave it on during movies if I choose. My space is small. If you have a large fireplace that commands attention, you may want something bolder and brighter. I'm ok that this doesn't put off heat since it will be neat my tv electronics. The amount of mist is low enough that I'm not worried about damage to my electronics. I live in Colorado, where is so dry, so I love that this doubles as a humidifier. The remote is a bit tricky and I'm still trying to figure that out. If I have any complaints down the line, I may post an update. For right now I love everything but the price hahaha. I did wait for black friday sale and saved about 15%... I could not find any other fireplace on the market like this without prices being way higher and the look too modern for my esthetic.

First realistic electric fire place...
Ever since one of our acquaintances burned their house down in an unattended fireplace accident, we've opted for electric fireplaces. My feeling has always been they either need to look authentic - something an electric fireplace has never been able to accomplish - or they need to look completely fake. It's better to go for "ambiance" and miss reality by a mile so no one thinks you're trying fool them with your faux fire than it is to have something that falls into the category of "almost but not quite".So we've always gone with the "so bad it's good" look...y'know, those fake log sets with the light bulb in the rotating can that crackles "like a real fire" if you believe the advertising slicks. People see it, laugh, and say "hey, cool fire!"And then along came Optimyst. This fireplace insert is a game changer. As long as you understand what you're buying, I can say with confidence this is the first electric fireplace I've seen that actually looks real. But first things first...there is no "flame effect". Do not buy this if you're looking for a roaring fire. I understand there are other Optimyst fireplaces - rather than fireplace inserts - that do have a flame effect, but this is NOT one of those products. What it does do quite well is project an authentic "dying fire" effect. The glowing logs and realistic "smoke" give this fireplace insert a very pleasing, "end of fire" look. It puts my wife and I into what we affectionately refer to as a "fire coma"...the calming vista of smoking embers is truly relaxing...with dimmed lights and soft music you will be hard pressed to tell the difference between the Optimyst fireplace insert and a real fire. One minor criticism...the bed of coals could be brighter...they are fairly dim and hard to see unless the room is dark.At more than $800 it's a lot of money to pay for an illusion, but as illusions go, this is a very comforting one.We are quite pleased with this fireplace and I do recommend it.

It arrived on time, but power brick and cord ...
It arrived on time, but power brick and cord set was defective. Contacted dimplex and after much explanation they agreed to send a new cord set. Took over a week to arrive with unit unusable in the downtime. Cord set arrived today, and its working as expected. Its definitly more of a "dying fire" than a bonfire, but ver realistic. Im just kind of pissed i paid 750 for this and today its listed at 692 after a week plus of waiting... Can i get a price adjustment?update. been using for a month and loved it. went to bed last night and it was working when we shut it down for the night. this morning I turned it on and there were no lights. then one bulb started dimly flickering. I disassembled the unit to see if I could see any problems. now the lights are def totally dead. I'm not sure if the lights effect the rise of the steam, but it seems like the steam is no longer rising, but drifting downward into the unit.ive emailed dimplex but of course they are not open on weekends.hoping for a solution Monday. its still under 1 year warranty...but this ridiculous. two major issues in the first month.
