perfect item!
PREFACEI initially gave it a five-star only because it can get confused when plugging in an additional cable, causing the audio to cut out. Unplugging the power for 30 seconds and plugging it back in fixed the problem, but it was a little annoying to figure out. Turns out I should have reserved the Number One input for the MHL cable that comes with the unit, as that input port is designed to work with mobile devices that have HDMI out-my bad basically.I don't experience the unit I received overheating as indicated in other post(s). If I had to guess, it would be that the person(s) experiencing overheating either received faulty units, or are running with all three inputs populated and feeding signal 25 hours a day, on a switcher than costs less than USD50, which I feel certain it was not meant to do. We watch TV for sometimes hours on end, and then turn it off for the night.REVIEWFor anyone who doesn't really want to become the A/V guy or gal in high school, this is the unit for you.For anyone who was the A/V guy or gal in high school, this is the unit for you.Translation: This VICTONY HDMI switcher has all sorts of little bells and whistles and yet, you don't need to use them unless you want to. It's small, doesn't use much power, and works like a charm. This unit has an amazing level of function granularity, yet includes an "Auto" function that pretty well takes care of everything for you: mash gravy, cake icing. In my application, I have one of the infamous Sharp flat-screen TVs that has a fabulous picture, horrible sound, and and absolute inability to feed sound over the TOSLINK optical output to an external sound bar.COMPONENTS- Sharp LC-60LE550 60-inch Aquos 1080p 120Hz LED HDTV- Sony DVPSR510H DVD Player- DISH Network HOPPER Whole Home DVR System with Built-in Sling Box- Yamaha ATS-1030 Sound Bar with Bluetooth- Samsung Galaxy S5 cell phone w/HDMI outNOTE: The Galaxy cell phone needs an MHL specification cable, and must be plugged into the Number One HDMI input port. The HD switch comes with an MHL cable, but you may want to get an E-More 1.8M HD1080P Micro USB MHL to HDMI HDTV Adapter Converter Mobile Phone Digital Cable.SECOND NOTE: When I plug the MHL cable into the Number One input to service the cell phone HDMI out, while the unit is in "Auto" mode, the output goes blank, even though there is an HDMI signal on one of the other inputs. Beware, or be aware.- Logitech Harmony 650 Remote ControlNOTE: The VICTONY HDMI switch comes with a small remote that works fine, but I wanted to use my Harmony remote. Thankfully the VICTONY HDMI switch is listed in the MyHarmony remote configuration software as, "VICTONY VHD-PRO3X1", and it was easy to install it to the Harmony remote, which now has access to every single manual function on the VICTONY switch.- Three (3) 3-foot Amazon Basics HDMI cables (not included with the VICTONY switch)- One (1) AmazonBasics Digital Optical Audio TOSLINK Cable - 3.28 Feet (not included with the VICTONY switch)- One MHL specification Mini-HDMI to HDMI cable (included with the VICTONY switch)- VICTONY 3x1 HDMI switch with plug-in power transformerOUTPUTS- The TV gets a single HDMI cable from the VICTONY switch's single HDMI output.- The sound bar gets a single optical cable from the View HD switch's single TOSLINK port.INPUTS- The DVR, DVD player and Galaxy each get an HDMI cable into one (each) of the three (3) HDMI input ports on the HD switchm making sure the cell phone is going to the Number One HDMI input port.So that's it. Plug it in and turn it on. Make sure the blue LED light on the front panel is on indicating "Auto" mode is engaged, and you should be in business.

I am very happy with this product
After paying over $150/mo. for DirecTV service including NFL Sunday ticket, you can imagine how upsetting it was to receive the dreaded message "TV does not support this program's content protection" when flipping between games and when trying to play back recorded DVR content, usually from CBS. Everything has worked fine for years so why this newly onset error? After several calls to DirecTV support, who were generally as useless as usual, the last tech support agent revealed that the "Networks" had recently upgraded their HDCP protection to deter piracy. "Really?" I LAUGHED. "I assure you it is MUCH easier to pirate programming than pay for it legitimately." Anyone "in the know" understands this. However, I try to be an honest citizen and taxpayer so I wanted to get this working legit. The agent then suggested that I simply place an HDMI splitter in-line on the HDMI cable coming from the DVR. Being in the AV industry for over 15 years, I knew exactly what she was suggesting and it was like I heard harpists as the clouds opened and golden light shone from the heavens. Why didn't I think of this?So basically it works like this... the splitter maintains the HDCP handshake with the DirecTV DVR. Anything on the other side of the split is just a bare signal, no copy protection. So I placed this tiny box on the HDMI cable going out of the DVR and it works good. I have not had a single hiccup or HDCP content warning since. Also, all of my recorded content plays fine. Remember, it needs to be the first device on the output HDMI from the DirecTV DVR.This is a good solution if you are going HDMI to DVI, for example, or maybe using an Audio Video Receiver as your HDMI switcher, or simply do not want to change to component cables for your video as DirecTV would have you believe is an acceptable solution. This little box is tiny, durable, made of metal, and works good. There is no setup or other nonsense, just plug and play. Have not tried it for actually splitting, so can't vouch for that, but as far as fixing the flat-out br

Works great with the Apple TV (2015 model)
This little box is a life saver. Do read the other comments about the dim lights. That wouldn't stop me from getting it again however. The problem was my Samsung TV, although it had multiple HDMI inputs did not pass through the audio so you could use a home theater amplifier and decoder. The only optical output I had was on my TiVO which I passed directly to the Samsung Home Theater. Taking sound output from the TV for my PS3 (Blueray player) was transferred through the TV as RCA Audio Out and lacked all the surround sound information. Now I take all of my sources, even the Home Theater, and feed it into this switcher. My Tivo, Home Theater and PS3 go into separate inputs with the output going to the TV using the HDMI and the Audio using the optical output to the Home Theater. I have full surround sound from all my sources. I'm just about ready to add my Computer to the mix so I can have a 55" monitor from the comfort of my recliner. The down side of the device is that the yellow position signal on the front is weak and the sensor for the IR doesn't have a large acceptance angle nor does it have enough sensitivity. But all is forgiven for the convenience it provides. I use a Harmony (Logitech) remote so switching from one system to another is just one push of a button to configure everything. Sometimes the sound gets lost in the transition. I don't know if that is a Samsung problem or this product but turning off the Home Theater and turning it back on solves the problem quickly on the rare times that it happens. There is a second output which allows you to send a different signal to another device. So I will pass my computer HDMI out to the box then back to my monitor. Now I can watch the Tivo on my monitor if I want to and something else on the TV. I like!
