Great Lakes Steelhead, Salmon & Trout: Essential Techniques for Fly Fishing the Tributaries Paperback – Illustrated, August 11, 2009

I've been fly fishing for nearly 60 years. During nearly all of that time I've resided in Southwest PA. I've heard many exciting tales of steelhead fishing on the tributaries of Lake Erie, but work and family obligations kept me from sampling the action. Now that I've retired I have time to see for myself what it's all about. I can't think of anyone better to learn from than Erie, PA-based steelhead guide Karl Weixlmann. He presents information about tackle and techniques in a clear, easy to understand manner. There's plenty of information here on effective flies and how and when to fish them. I'm looking forward to putting some of his advice into practice.

This book is excellent. It has a great amount of detailed text explaining all the different species you will be after in the great lakes, it also lists the streams that are considered good for each species. He goes into a ton of detail on how, what where and why each species does what it does and how to catch them. The pictures are used where needed but are not just space fillers. I recently also purchased Steelhead University for some additional knowledge and that book was more picutres than anything. I would not recommend that book, but this book is top notch for the brand new fisherman to the very experienced.

2018 was my first year flyfishing for salmon and steal head, and this book was very informative. I really love the information about the individual tributaries. Great photos too. I keep this book on the lamp table in the living room and will pick it up just to leaf through it. Nice job!

good for the novice and casual steelheader. I recommend it as a how to get started book, but experienced steelheaders will find it useful as well. With these tips you can get started fishing with some confidence. Just keep in mind that no book can replace experience on the water

This is the first and best book re commenced to me by seasoned steelhead fisherman in Erie. They were right and as a result I have been hooked on steelhead fishing with hundreds of fun times catching these magnificent fish.

This book covers everything that you need to know for fishing in Pennsylvania for steelhead.

This is the book covered just about all the subjects I was really wanting to find out about and missing in the other books I have read. He made me feel that I could do steelheading. I would love to fish with him. Actually, reading the book l felt like I was. No black magic just good sensible and straight talking.
