Trances People Live

Wonderful For Counselors & Others Willing To Digest Contents
This book is wonderful ! That doesn't mean you have to or will agree 100% with every chapter but it will make you think and question yourself, your life and see things differently in your daily experiences. This is one of those books you will most likely have to pause and think about page by page or every few pages. It is packed with phrases that make you have to pause and reflect. Being a student of NLP, hypnosis, trance and a professional counselor for 30 years working on myself and with others I find this book wonderful and refreshing. Some have cautioned that for the self help reader it can be a bit challenging. For a light read this is not the best place to start possibly, but even if you only glean and get a few principles it is well worth your time. It is not a hard read just a one that is a bit deeper than some. It is not a quick fix book but deeply philosophical and challenging to preconceived paradigms both for the average human but also wonderfully challenging to the average counselors mind set. You will get something valuable for you and others from this book even if only gleaning a few gems, as it is a gold mind of reflective thought on life, trance and healing choices to wake up from toxic trances. Enjoy !

Finally I understand what to do with material from my past!
My regular therapy was only partially helpful. It tended to leave me in the past. Dr. Wolinsky explains clearly what to do in that situation--to experience the 'trance' from the past while availing oneself of all one's present skills and resources-- while staying present. Those aren't his words--and it is more complex than that--certainly identifying all of the kinds of trances can be complex, but his approach keeps one from wallowing in the past while still allowing one to work with it. This was the question I put out to the universe, and his book answered that! Enjoy! I am looking forward to reading his other books and listening to his Cds.

very good, lots to digest
This is a fantastically useful book. It is possible to get it as a .pdf download, but it takes a lot of trouble, and by the time you print it out, it's cheaper just to get the book. This was recommended to me by an Ericksonian hypnotherapist, and I was not disappointed. There's a lot here to digest.

great read
I love playing around with all the different perspectives of different spiritual so called "new world consciousness" teachers. Wolinsky's book gives the reader a clear perspective of how some people who dont possess awareness end up living life in a programmed manner. It' s a good read overall.

Outstanding Concepts -- But Doesn't Read Well
If you don't know -- this book is a must read. However, it is not very fluid or easy to read despite the fact that ... the contents themselves are fairly simplistic, nothing too complex at all, and so it should be easier to read. I also disagree with the author, outright, at certain times. Alright. For instance, I cannot understand why he frequently calls certain things by certain names. Concepts he is inventing. The connection is not at all apparent, and it leaves you with a feeling of incongruence. Small things like that occur frequently in this book, and that, in fact, is why the book if far less enjoyable than it really should be, and why I have been slow to finish it. At any hoot, the concepts themselves which are being discussed in the book are absolutely fundamental, and so, really, you must read this book.

Dissertation Reaearch
Wolinsky's writing is easy to understand and mentally accessible to people who are not familiar with psycho babble. His theories are explain how our unconscious links to our conscious mind consistently until we are not aware of the changing states.

Good gift, haven't read it so I can't speak to the material. Apparently some people still want physical books, who knew?

One of the best books on hypnosis - get it now!
Incredible! If you're a hypnotherapist like me (or you have any sort of interest in hypnosis or psychology in general) then this book is a must. It brings hypnosis right into the 21st century. Rather than seeing trance as some sort of special state that we go into, Wolinsky makes it obviously clear that most of us already live our lives in such states. The challenge, it seems, is more about how to get out of these 'limiting' trances, such as fear, anxiety, depression etc. One of the best books on hypnosis I've ever read, and there's been a few!Couple this with Arthur Deikman's 'The Observing Self' and you'll be well on your way to a better understanding of trance and how to master your own psychology.

Truly inventive.
If you are interested in Hypnotherapy or have studied Trevor Silvestor's Cognitive Hypnotherapy this is one of the ' background' books worth reading. Truly inventive.

A thought provoking and original book
At the heart of this book is an inspirational idea - that most of us flip in and out of trance states in our daily lives. In other words, most of us self-hypnotise ourselves on a continual basis and show the symptoms of being hypnotized i.e. forgetfulness, fantasising about the future, obsessing about the past, feeding ourselves outdated suggestions that drive our subsequent behaviour. This idea turns the normal hypnotherapy approach on its head with the role of the therapist to work with these existing trances rather than to hypnotise the patient. Working with the existing trances involves the recognition of these, and then waking the client up from them such that they start to witness their own trance states coming and going and are at choice over them rather than victims of them. As an executive coach, rather than a hypnotherapist, myself this is a powerful way of working since my clients do not pay me to hypnotise them and yet they do expect me to wake them up from patterns that are not leading to the achievement of their goals. I did not give the book five stars only because I found the writing style a bit eccentric - a lot of existing knowledge of hypnosis is assumed, there are some passages that go off on a tangent interrupting the flow of the book and the use of some diagrams and models would have helped me absorb the content quicker. This said, it did make me think and that is what I look for most in the books I read.
