Great book for beginners!
I'm only about halfway through this, at best, but I am already learning a TON. I basically knew how to change my oil and a couple other things before reading this, so this was a good book for me since it basically takes you from the beginning and explains each subsystem of your vehicle. I haven't gotten to the actual part where it teaches how to repair, but reading the book makes it clear that you need to UNDERSTAND the systems before you actually do anything to them. A very good buy.

It an attempt to not look like such a "dummy"
Let's be clear, I am not a "car guy". My Father attempted to pass down his knowledge to me but I was never interested enough to learn about cars. That is something I've always regretted. In an attempt to not look like such a "dummy", I took a chance on this book and my first reaction was "WOW!". This book pretty much covers everything and I have found it extremely useful. If you are in the market for an auto repair book, look no further!

Love this book!
I had one of these books way back - if you're not a born mechanic, it really helps you understand how cars work, what parts are called, and how repairs are made, and you don't feel like a 'dummy' when a mechanic is explaining what's wrong with your car!

Great book, but outdated.
Great starter for auto repair, newer version is out now, but the dummies series are a good start. For the non gear head also.

Good reference book
This book can give anyone a good understanding of how your car works. I believe anyone who drives a car should have one. Just because the title is intimidating for some don't pass up an opportunity to learn the basic mechanics of your car. It is so easy to read and could save you tons of money.

Auto Repair for Dummies
As the name implies, the book (like all in this series) assumes no prior knowledge, and it starts at the basic level - which is zero - then progresses through the steps. Very helpful and well done. Certainly worth the money. I would heartily recommend to anyone wanting a grounding in auto repair.

Great for beginners
Great to book for beginners like myself. The author is organized and pays attention to the little details. There are plenty of diagrams and pictures, and the author encourages you to explore your car. Excellent jumping point for novice mechanics and people who want to take care of their car.If you really want more in-depth explanations of car form and function, I recommend Auto Fundamentals by Stockel & Johanson. If you want to go a step further in auto repair I suggest picking up a Haynes Repair Manual specific to your car. Making friends with a veteran mechanic helps, too. =)
