Quality product at a great price
This refractometer came very well packaged and comes with an extremely protective storage case. The refractometer was ready to use right out of the box with easy to understand instructions. But it also came with instructions to calibrate if necessary. There are three different scales depending on what you are looking to measure. It is built like an expensive piece of equipment but is very reasonably priced especially if you only use it a couple times a year. Glad to know my honey was right on the mark and safe to put away.

As Described, Received quickly-- Time will tell if it is accurate
So far I am happy with the purchase. It seems pretty good quality at a reasonable price. I bought this refractometer to check the water content of our backyard honey. The directions were clear enough on how to use olive oil to calibrate the device and how to test the honey. This could also be used to test maple syrup among other things. I believe it to be accurate, but will only really know as time progresses and I see if my honey stays fresh throughout the winter. Last year I did not test my honey before putting it in jars and a majority of it fermented because it had too high a water content which allowed the naturally present yeast to begin to grow. This doesn't happen to most store bought honey because they heat it (pasturize) before bottling. It kills the yeast. Most beekeepers don't do this because they want to preserve all the natural things in the honey that can benefit the body. I will try to update regarding accuracy later on.

Honey refractometer a good purchase
Very well built, easy to use and read when checking moisture content in honey. And a very fair price too!

Be sure to read the "mannual"
The price was good and we all know, you get what you pay for. The fact that the front of the instruction book reads "Instruction Mannual", should be a tip off!! Yikes!!! The calibration instructions were lacking a bit. It suggested to use distilled water which should read "0". To begin with, the scale doesn't go to 0 only 12. Then the line was extremely fuzzy and couldn't read it. After some online research, I discovered that virgin olive oil is a good calibration fluid. I was able to get a good reading and the tool appears to have been properly calibrated when shipped. My honey was easy to test and I assume that the hard part is history now.

Good tool when making candy
This item cannot be initialized because it starts well above zero. Seems sturdy and did help with making slab jellies.
