Risking Everything: 110 Poems of Love and Revelation Hardcover – March 18, 2003

I like Housden's selections so much, that I bought both a hard copy and one for my Kindle. I also purchased a copy for the nursing facility where my mother was cared for until her death, inscribing it in her memory and hoping families of other residents would find solace within. I know I did...over and over again. I own many books of poetry, and each one is special; but when I want to be lifted up and inspired, I always go to "Risking Everything". I also appreciate that Mr. Housden includes information on each poet, so I don't have to dash to the internet to re-acquaint myself with one about whom I want to know more. This book is now part of my daily life.

I have been carrying this book around with me since I purchased it at the beginning of the year. It has helped carrying me through a pretty rough personal time. As usual, Housden is spot on with his choices; in terms of nourishing the spirit, there's a range of choice, and there isn't a bad poem in the lot. In fact, some of the best poems ever written are collected here. This book has become so meaningful for me that I'm requiring it for my new poetry students next semester. I've also given copies as gifts. Don't miss it!

I keep buying this book as a gift for my friends because the poems are so well chosen, poems of love, loss, revelation, discovery, beauty and much else--everybody from Rumi to Czelaw Milosz to Mary Oliver. A book to read straight through or pick up almost anywhere when you need a little inspiration or a meditative moment.

I received this book from a friend as a gift. Since then have given this book as a gift to dozens of people for various occasions - birthday, wedding, thank you, etc. The poetry is some of the best.

Most poems are solid selections but some are downright sappy...not up to the vigor I'd expect from "Risking Everything" for a title. Still, it's good to have a volume that is thematically linked, and many are good ol' standards. Selections are from across cultures and ages. Worth having, but not essential.

Beautiful poems

This poem book is not worth the time or the money. It does not contain great poetry. Some is poorly translated and others are just terrible poems. All poems are about love and none about revelation. Overall it is a waste of money and time.

This is a delightful, moving anthology. I am grateful to Roger Housden for compiling it. I have given it as gifts and recommended it widely.
