Our Broan 678-G exhaust fan worked well enough, but it is noisy and getting on in age. We recently had to replace the internals of another 678-G in the house and found these types of upgraded replacements. It baffles us why Broan doesn't start with this type of motor and fan instead of the cheesy paddle-bladed fan they use. It creates a lot of noise as it pushes the air around and isn't very efficient at doing so. This replacement assembly from Bghdas is a direct plug and play, provided you make sure everything is correctly fastened. Our previous replacement also required some fine tuning as described in another review, this one as well. In this case, the two nuts and bolts that secure the fan motor to the housing frame were loose. In fact, one was completely off and the washer and nut were floating around inside the carton. Once we reinstalled the fasteners, we found that the squirrel-cage fan was rubbing on the metal frame. We hunted up a few washers to act as spacers between the motor and the frame. That solved the rubbing issue and all was right with the world. In our other fan, we would have just slid the fan along the shaft, but this blade is glued to the shaft, so no play allowed. This upgrade more than doubles the CFM and does so with less noise than the original. As a solution to an old fan, this is the best of all worlds in that there is no messy drywall repair involved and the whole process takes just a few minutes.
