Used it to make a kiln. You may want to add more water than it says in the instructions. I also didn’t exactly follow its instructions for heat curing but did my best by slowly heating it. It has performed really well. Very strong, still uniform and no cracking. Heated to 2900 degrees and it didn’t care. Good stuff. I also ordered the 20lb bag and they sent me a 30lb bag. No complains here as I used it all.

I tried another brand before this, and found them to be GRITTY and inconsistent with bonding and likely to be very weak in tension. Girtech, however, is very smooth, mixes well without voids, and really sets up hard (particularly if you use reinforcing framework) and strong. I would say that pound for pound, Girtech mixes more product volume. Unlike the competitor, Girtech has a second ingredient bag inside which must be mixed carefully. Sets up very hard and very strong quickly! Very smooth end result!

Update, the company selling the good reached out to me. Wanted to make things right for me and has done well to make sure that’s happened.Not only would I say this is a quality product but a great company behind it.This is a great product and quite easy to work with, but I was not happy with what was received in my original order. This refactory cement is quite wonderful and can take a lot of heat easily. I found it easy to work with. It did have some smaller stones but for my application of it, that didn’t hinder my process at all.Original review: The bag I received for this order was patch worked together. I’m not sure if it was broken or what and they just kept adding tape to it to get it to 20lbs. The first bag I received was the complete item. This one was cut in half or taped together wrapped in multiple bags. “High-Quality Refractory Cement: Concrete mix GIRtech FIRECAST (20 LB) is a multifunctional refractory product” would lend you to believe that this is 20lbs of refactory product. When after measuring the bags and tape, it was .43lbs of bag / tape and I only go19.57lbs of refractory product.

Tried to cast a rectangular box with this product. Was able to cast a shape, but it is very brittle. Probably would benefit from some sort of rebar.

Good for feeling in cracks

I used this to rework my gas fire kiln. Took it up to about 2,800 degrees F, and it held up perfectly. It is "gravel-ly", but if you have gaps that's what you need anyway. Good product.

I spent many hours researching and learning about refractory before finding this one. I haven't found an easier product that does what it says it will do. I have used it to cast the floor of my forge as well as the door and rear bricks. I also used it on the floor and lid to my furnace. Both of which were 2.5 to 3 inches thick. It performs. I will only use this castable in the future for rugged high temp applications. This coupled with kaowool and ITC-100 is all you need to build any oven, forge, or furnace.
