Shipped super fast, well packed for shipping by the manufacturer
Shipped super fast, well packed for shipping by the manufacturer; well kept in stock by the seller; box was pristine at arrival. I want so badly to give this machine a 5. I work from home as a seamstress doing all kinds of projects: Costumes, Outerwear, Upholstery; Leather & Fur; and items that are called 'Upcycled;' meaning- made into one kind of garment from another kind of garment- such as; a coat made from old sweaters, a leather couch turned into a corset, a box of ties turned into a skirt, a blanket made of old sweatshirts, rugs made out of braided strips of T-shirt. I bought this machine thinking- Wow! 12 layers of Denim, this is perfect! Well, it will do it; I does stitch really nicely through thick items with a normal to loose weave. It has trouble though when it gets to tighter weaves; like silk, satin, or when you're working with a fabric that has any level of interfacing. In order to get this machine to stitch one tie onto another; I had to resort to had turning the crank, and the machine will do it; in time; but since the body of the machine is so light; it moves all over the place when a little hand coercing is needed. I was disappointed that i had to resort to hand turning at all; even though the motor sounds powerful; it sort of just gives up; for instance; it would hit the fabric and stop; but if i turned the wheel by hand; the needle would just glide into the fabric just fine; and i am also always using the appropriate needle tip for my fabric type- silk, stretch, denim, embroidery, leather, et cetera. This seems to me to be an underpowered issue? I have worked with home sewing machines that are older that just stitch through stuff like this as if it were nothing; no matter what kind of needle is in it. I guess the motor thing could be a safety 'feature,' in that it won't make the machine do something that might make it break; however; for heavy duty projects; you usually want the machine to stitch through the whole seam without having to break consistency to hand crank the stitches over the worst parts; because that's what you've paid for a heavy duty machine to do. Now, i have not yet tried leather; but my experience with the silk has me a little wary. I also want to see if i can clamp this machine down somehow, or attach weights to it- something to anchor it to the tabletop. It's great that it doesn't weigh much; but it sucks when you can't stabilize the machine and work your heavy duty project through at the same time. That being said; the machine has powered through many of my other tough projects like a dream come true. It works really really well with fleece, wool, canvas, broadcloth, linen, twill, suiting; things with a high pile; stretch fabric; again, anything with a relatively loose weave. For finer fabrics that need a heavy duty application, invest in a LOT of the right kind of needle if you're buying this machine. a weighted case or a sewing table you can insert this machine into. For the fancier stitches; the length and width of the pattern stitch cannot be adjusted; which eliminates a great deal of variation that these sorts of special stitches could do on a machine with separate adjustment knobs for that. Adjusting the basic straight and zig zag stitch length and width is otherwise fairly easy. I had to adjust the 'nanny' disc on the bobbin winder; as it was only winding half full; and the bobbin can be loaded completely full. I was also a little disappointed that the bobbin itself is a proprietary size and that there doesn't seem to easily be a way to buy more of them. I am going to have to make a trip into NYC to take the bobbin to compare it at the wholesalers and buy a bunch in bulk. I am going to keep the machine; as I teach sewing and i do think it has its applications; but i am going to keep searching for that perfect Heavy Duty machine that has the gravitas required for Heavy Duty sewing without the price tag of an industrial. (pictures show ties stitched together with one of the fancy stitches; here is a place where i wish i could have taken the width up to the full 6mm; this result is the set width- which is 3.5 or 4mm)

Using for sewing neoprene
I sew elastic headbands for my small business but have been branching out to heavier materials like neoprene. My fully automatic Singer Stylist just wasn't able to handle the thicker material so I started looking at more industrial sewing machines. Not wanting to pay thousands for an industrial machine at this time, I decided to go ahead and purchase the J34 with extension table bundle from Mr. Vac and Mrs. Sew. By the way they have wonderful customer service and will respond to your emails promptly.I have been using it for over a month and it works like a dream over multiple layers of neoprene, which are 1-2 mm each, just using a regular 90/14 needle. Someone asked if you can change the stitch length -- yes, you can set it between 0 to 4 for the first 15 stitch patterns, but when you switch over to the rest of the settings (such as triple stitch) there is no stitch length option. You also have the ability to tweak the amount of pressure applied by the foot using the pressure adjustment knob (specific to SuperJ34 only).I have been using the Singer Stylist for over two years, so there are some things that I miss with this machine such as the automatic needle up feature. This SuperJ34 stops where you stop...often I stop sewing with the needle down and have to remember to bring the needle up by turning the handwheel towards me. It's just one of the things that I got so used to with an automatic machine. Think of it as driving a fully automatic car and then learning to drive a car with a manual transmission. Another thing that surprised me is the light inside is an incandescent bulb instead of an LED light that seems to be more standard today. It burns a little warm, but haven't had to change it yet. When it's time to change I'm going to see if it's possible to replace it with an LED bulb if they even make it in that size. Lastly, I have a little trouble controlling the speed of the sewing with the foot pedal, especially when I switch back and forth with my other machine. It seems a bit sluggish to get going, and then goes too fast. When I spend more time on the machine and get used to it, I am better we controlling the speed. With all the little quirks that I've noticed, I still think this machine is super easy to use and powerful for a wide range of applications. It comes with a nice array of feet and supplies. I already have an assortment of snap on sewing feet that work with this machine. I bought more bobbins from the seller (Toyota Style AISIN-1 Sewing Machine Bobbins). These bobbins are a bit thicker and heavier-duty than the Singer 15J ones that I have for my Stylist. (Tip: I've been able to use my Singer 15J ones in the Toyota SuperJ34 machine just fine and it holds a little more yardage.) One more thing, I had to slightly adjust the thingamabob that signifies when to stop the thread winding because the bobbin was only winding half full. Overall a very solid, well-made machine that is simple and easy to use, even for my 6 and 8-year-olds.

Great machine
I received this machine today. I think it is wonderful. I am a 72 year old male and I make my own underwear. I have been around machinery all my life and get very frustrated when a machine malfunctions. My old machine was purchased when my daughter left home taking a good machine. I now believe the tension from the bobbin was off. I bought a different machine and while testing it the needle broke. Changed the needle and it broke and jammed the machine. Used this one today on the same product and preformed beautifully. Love it..

NOT industrial
This is so not what I hoped. It is light, plastic, and appears to be cheap. I think the dark color is nice, and it has decent features for a sewing machine, but I have better ones that are better made and do the same job. I researched this and people were claiming it sews through leather, does a thickness beyond belief (12 layers of denim, etc) and so i thought it would work for my needs which is tough thick horse blankets. The machine arrived very fast, great packaging. Hooked it up and found it was just like everything else i have, nothing special. Cheap price for a new machine, could get a better used one for less. Disappointed. Way too light to do heavy work, but the gliding foot is really neat.
