Remember me
A new movie from Pixar animation. Going back with this to something stand alone and original, rather than anything that's a sequel or part of a franchise.Set in Mexico, it tells of aspiring young musician Hector. Who loves to play the guitar and sing. But due to an incident in his family's past, when a musician broke his grandmother's heart, music is strictly forbidden to him, and he will be forced to enter the family business. An attempt to enter a talent contest lands him in the realm of the dead. And if he doesn't get back to the land of the living in time, he will be stuck there forever. But he's going to learn a few things along the way.....Now this is proper Pixar. Beautifully animated with amazing colours and visuals. But it also has an incredible amount of humour. And heart. It deals with some pretty strong subjects, involving death and how much the living remember those who are gone, but it does it so very well indeed. The emotion is genuine. The humour is superb. Even the comedy sidekick dog is done just right so as be charming rather than annoying. It's also superbly plotted, with some excellent story revelations coming along at just the right points to keep the narrative moving. All this and superb music, plus a genuine Mexican flavour, makes for the kind of thing this studio does so very well indeed. A great film that can be enjoyed by kids and grown ups.Parent though do note some bits might be a bit too scary for younger children. If so, then stop mollycoddling them! It's only a cartoon! The dvd has the following language and subtitle options:Languages: English.Subtitles: English. It's also English audio captioned. It begins, as usual with Disney dvds, with a trailer and an ad. Which can be skipped via the next button on the dvd remote. And which can be seen in the sneak peeks section of the disc anyhow. There are no extras at all. In a first, there's not even a Pixar short cartoon. And there are also no extras scenes in the final credits, either during or after them.

A GREAT FILM WORTHY OF 6 STARS
THE COLOURS, THE MUSIC, THE ACTION, THE BEAUTIFUL CHARACTERS, THE PROMISE OF LIFE AFTER DEATH, ALL THESE ARE THERE ON THE SURFACE BUT THE UNDERLYING PLOT IS WHERE THE TRUE BEAUTY OF THIS MAGNIFICENT PRODUCTION LIES; THE MESSAGE IS CLEAR BUT I CANNOT SAY MORE FOR FEAR OF RUINING THE READER'S VIEWING. I PROMISE YOU, BE YOU FIVE OR FIFTY, THIS FILM WILL TOUCH YOUR HEART. BUY IT AND WATCH IT AND REMEMBER - EVEN DEATH WILL NOT SAVE YOU FROM KARMA.

You HAVE TO watch it!
Best movie I have watched in a LONG time! Attaching characters, catchy songs, funny and oh so beautiful. Forgiveness, hope, family and music are the words I'd associate with Coco. Some Spanish words are used in the movie without being translated but it's basic and it's used in minor scenes (ex: hijo, muchacho, abuelita, etc). It doesn't stop you from understanding what's going on.I use it with my Spanish classes to teach them about the Day of the Dead too as the information you get in the movie is extremely accurate. You learn about alebrijes, ofrendas, calaveritas and many other traditional Mexican cultural aspects. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone who loves travelling or who just wants to relax enjoying a good movie that will make you forget where you are and take you to Mexico.
