Another excellent product by Meross
I use a lot of Meross products around the home and have done for many years. This latest gadget has enabled me to overcome a previous limitation where I was forced to use a switch facia that did not match the rest used in the room. The Smart Light Switch is designed to sit within the back box (pattress) and for the original switch facia to still be used. Some caution is required before selecting this option for remotely switching your lights as a neutral wire is required as not all light switches have neutral wires available in the wall and tend only to be at the light fitting. Also, the back box must have sufficient depth to allow the wires to be routed safely although the smart switch is reasonably thin. A possible solution to gain more depth for the smart switch might be to use a thick bezel under the switch facia. It was great to see short wires provided in the kit to link the existing switch facia to the smart switch. Setup was deceptively simple once I had properly read the instructions to reset the smart switch just before the process. 'Matter' worked as promised with all the apps such as Alexa and Home and is a significant improvement on the setup process for the early Meross devices. The ability to retain pseudo functionality of the original switch with remote control is a game changer. There is a very slight delay in the light switching on or off when using the original switch as all it really does is signal the Meross device to change the light to on or off.I really appreciate the continual development by Meross and thankful that I chose their devices early in the process of making a ‘Smart Home’.

Finally, a smart switch that actually stays smart without constant drama—Meross nailed it
Got the Meross MSS185 thinking it would be another “smart” switch that only works when the moon is in Virgo and the WiFi is feeling cooperative. Shockingly, it just worked.Install? Pretty self explanatory, follow online link or simply look at the accompanying paperwork that show the correct way to wire. Make sure the main fuse board is off and test with voltage detector before touching anything. Will only fit back boxes that are over 3cm deep, minimum. If the device was thinner, I suppose more people would purchase it as you could fit it into more switches, this, probably its only downside. Switch is solidly built, looks simple.Setup? I scanned the Matter code, and bam, it showed up in my Alexa and Google Home faster than my cat shows up when I open a snack packet. No forced accounts, no app circus, no password resets from 2017. It’s like Meross actually respects my sanity. Setup the way its supposed to be, well done.I have other meross plugs and must say they have never failed on me yet. Numerous ones are more than 5 years old, so I trust Meross in building quality products meant to last. And so the price is justified, I'm confident it will last. You get what you pay.It turns my lights on and off instantly, doesn’t ghost off the network at 2 AM, and still lets me slap the switch physically when I walk by like a caveperson. Even my non-tech family can use it without calling me for tech support, which is a miracle in itself.Personally I installed it on the entrance light, and have set up a routine linked with my Blink door bell. When someone is detected, it will turn the light on. Works everytime. I have Amazon Echo that works flawlessly with it.(Also useful when im away, and set up a routine to make prying eyes think I'm home)Now the rest of my switches are looking at it, knowing they’re getting replaced. Sorry, fellas. Matter works, and Meross nailed it. A few of these and you have a 1930s smart home.

Much more reliable than any smart bulb I've every had.
I purchased this device due to the fact I have patchy Wi-Fi connection at times which can make turning smart bulbs on take forever or just not work at all at times. I couldn't believe how much more reliable these are compared to a smart bulb. The package contains a small controller with the required wires, you just need a neutral wire and can be wired in in about 15 minutes after turning off the power to the switches first. They're simple to setup using the matter code and then the switches just simply work. They integrate well with my Alexa network and now not only do I have a much more reliable connection I don't have to worry about the limited lifetime a bulb can give, for around the same prices as a bulb.

Good Apple HomeKit Modules
Fits into the ceiling rose, utilising existing cables and switches. Generally works very well but not quirk free. The Bad:If installed when a firmware update is needed the process can cause issues and becomes time consuming.Modules can stop responding, it’s a case of turning off the lighting ring for a few seconds. On average 1 stops every two months. The Good:Responds quickly and nicely.Apple HomeKit version integrates well.Appear good quality based on long term use.Large range of modules, plugs, switches and sensors.Overall good value for money - 10 in use within our household.
