Data transfer speed is great - anything that supports USB3 will show a significant ...
I ordered this as I needed another USB CD drive for performing ad-hoc firmware updates to servers. The issue with some external drives is that they struggle with power as a USB port is normally limited to 500mA. This one works flawlessly with a single USB connection to the device, however it also comes with an additional power plug to USB cable just in case the device cannot provide enough power to the drive, although I've not needed this yet.Data transfer speed is great - anything that supports USB3 will show a significant improvement in data transfer speeds and the drive spins the disc up quickly and quietly. The unit feels well made and is quite light too. The actual cd tray pops out of the case in the same manner as a laptop CD drive and there is an electronic eject button towards the read of the case on top to do this. The only thing to be mindful of is that the USB connector on the drive is not a standard connector, therefore be sure not to misplace the cable.

Appears good.
It worked straight out of the box, plug and play. There are two cables. One is the data connection and the second is a power cable that is only necessary if your computer cannot supply enough power via that data cable. Mine was fine just using the one cable. I am only using this for CDs and DVDs. No rewriting etc. It is not clear looking at the device or the paperwork, but if you look at the pictures on the listing for this item, you can eject the disc by touching the drive casing by the blue power light. It is working on Windows 10. Not sure of the quality and will report back if it dies unreasonably early. Otherwise happy enough - it was all straight forward.

Solves the issue of laptops no longer having a DVD drive anymore!
I do a lot of craft work, and still a lot of books etc have included CD/DVDs although the laptops dont have a slot anymore! Decided that rather than waiting till my husband got the old one up and running, it would make sense just to have this for the future. Worked really well straight away, just needed to download a driver for which good instructions were included. Very handy to have around the place. Also means I can now watch some of my old DVD’s as we dont have a player anymore, just watch on demand. Its not the sturdiest of external drives, but for the price is excellent value.

Style Over Substance?
It looks very nice, slim and stylish with it's cool blue light... but I want a DVD drive that has more to offer than good looks. So what does it have to offer besides being trés chic? Well in truth, the same as any other USB DVD drive. Put in a CD or DVD, run it, remove it when you're done... not much room for innovation perhaps, which means that the drive will stand or fall on in cons rather than its pros.So let me run through those cons:1st con - Looks good, but seems a touch flimsy, particularly the tray. It is not possible to place the disc firmly into the holder without using a degree of pressure that would break the tray, so one needs to support the underside of the tray whilst inserting discs. And without auto-close and eject, one must push the tray closed, and that also requires a degree of firmness that will move the whole drive across the surface it is upon rather than the tray, so again, one has to hold the rear of the drive in place to close the tray. It's not a huge deal mind you; most external drives share these particular issues.2nd con - the 2 supplied USB connecting leads (one for data, one for power) are absurdly short thus greatly limiting placement of the drive.3rd con - let's be honest, we all have one or two dodgy discs that are a bit scuffed up and should be trashed but which we can't bear to part with... and it's always 50/50 whether the drive will be able to read it. This drive will commit suicide in such a situation and stop working; Windows will not recognise it and it will not be in the Drive list until your computer is rebooted. This is no trivial matter. So in summary, it's a nice-looking, compact functional drive with little other than appearance to distinguish it from any other USB optical drive, a little lightweight but will do the job adequately if one doesn't ask it to access any physically compromised discs. It works, the issue is not sufficiently problematic for me to return the unit, but I would not choose to buy one again.

Fantastic external DVD drive
Great quality external DVD drive, easy plug and play setup and runs fairly quietly. The housing has a sturdy, good quality feel about it and the access speed is as quick as an internal drive. Bought as I have a number of laptops now without a DVD drive and it's nice to have the option. Supplied with two leads, one USB 3.0 which powered the device fully, however if you have an older laptop or device there's a secondary USB cable that provides additional power to the unit. If you're looking for a very reasonably priced, good quality, external DVD drive then you really can't go wrong, can't recommend highly enough,

Broke after a few uses.
This worked ok for a while and then broke. It is so cheaply made that the socket for the USB power cable shifted in its setting and it is now not possible to use.

Works good better thank the rest
This arrived the next day with no damage .It's a lovely looking dvd/CD drive .I bought this for when we go on holiday so we can watch movies or listen to music ...plus storing it on the drive means if it gets scratched then you always have it on the drive .it's really quiet and copies really quick ...works on most laptops or pcs so easy and a great idea .when using it you can bearly hear it working because of the low sound it makes ..low price so happy with my purchase! Thanks so much

Didn't work reliably on my Mac
The opening mechanism is troublesome. It will not open up reliably on my Mac. When I can open up a file then it plays ok. Frustrating!
