Study Guide for Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Electrical & Computer CBT Exam: Practice over 500 solved problems with detailed solutions including Alternative-Item Types

Passed FE using this book as one of my primary study sources. Has my strong recommendation.
Summary: Not a resource for learning new material for the first time, and must be accompanied by other sources. Nonetheless, it is an amazing starting point for studying and is an invaluable tool for practicing solving problems.Cons: (1) Hardly dives into underlying theory or explanations of important concepts; however, this book is advertised as a set of practice problems, not a review text. So this isn't a fault of the author or the book, but it is something to keep in mind. (2) Some solutions are lacking and will say things not far from "the answer is A because it's A." For this reason, you'll need to go to other resources for clarification. (3) I found the notation in the digital systems section to be unclear, especially regarding flip-flops and clock cycles. This was frustrating because I lean way more EE than CpE so I really needed to review this section. However, once I was able to decipher the author's notation this section became a good resource.Pros: Just as advertised, hundreds of practice problems over all sections covered on the FE. You should definitely be using all the resources you have - texts, old notes, credible online sources, knowledgeable peers and teachers - in conjunction with this book. But if you use this book and those other sources thoroughly, you will be prepared to take the FE exam. Furthermore, since this book covers every section of the FE, it will force you to work on your blind spots/weak areas.Comparison to like products: If you have the means, then I also recommend you pick up the NCEES practice exam and one of Wasim's practice exams as well (prioritize the NCEES one though, since they are the source of the actual FE exam). The other popular review manual on the market is Lindeburg's. I was lucky enough to be able to borrow the Lindeburg review manual from a friend for free. Lindeburg's book has far fewer questions; however, his questions are generally more challenging than Wasim's questions and therefore will really test your understanding. Personally I didn't care for most of his actual review material beyond the problems... his explanations are long and yet not as good as an actual textbook or lecture on the particular topic. In summary, if you can get Lindeburg's book, do it because his practice problems are really good (the issue is there's just not many of them), but if you only have the means for one, then I recommend going with Wasim's book due to the huge quantity of practice problems.

This was a helpful key to passing the FE
This book was helpful in passing the FE. the book is written for version 9.5 of the test, and i took version 10. there were no version 10 study guides yet. I have been out of college for 13 years and this helped me pass. I would not rely on this alone but it really helped round out my studying. I also used the Michael Lindberg books. But those alone would not have helped me pass either. i needed both, and also the practice exam from NCEES. but this was part of the holy trinity to help me pass the FE.What i like: this book has better solutions than the lindberg book. Waisam does a better job of working out the problems to help you figure out where you went wrong when working them out on your own.areas for improvement: the sections were put in the book in a random order. i know this is a small complaint but it was something that confused me. Also, in the solutions, where the author said to refer to certain sections of the FE handbook did not correspond to the correct pages in the actual handbook (the book was written for version 9.5, i had both manuals and it did not line up with either of them) so that was a little annoying too.BUUUUUUUUUT long story short, if you want to pass, use this as part of your study plan. I will say that owning this book was not enough though, you have to actually do the problems in the book (duh) anyway, if i was doing it again i would buy his book.

Very Good Source for FE Exam Prep
I graduated from Arizona State's online EE program this past May and purchased this book as well as a practice exam from NCEES to prep for the FE Exam. I went through the entire book once, working out every problem by hand. I then went through it a second time just hitting my problem areas from the first time around. After going through the book twice, I took the practice exam and felt very comfortable with the difficulty of the problems. I took the FE Exam this past Saturday and passed on my first try. My assessment is that the difficulty of the actual exam was very close to the difficulty of the practice problems in this book. If you can understand most of the solutions in this book, you're going to be fine on the FE Exam.I did find a couple of small errors in the book which I emailed the author about. He was always quick to reply with clarification and corrections when necessary. He also followed up with me the week before I took the test with some last minute pointers, and he checked in with me after taking the test to see how it went. He's clearly very passionate about helping people tackle this first step in their engineering career. There are a lot of very expensive FE Exam prep courses out there. My advice is to save your money and start with this book. Also, and I really can't stress this enough, learn how to use your calculator. Be very comfortable with complex numbers, vectors, matrices, and statistics functions.

Great for those who need more problems
This book is a great if you need more problems to go over. I used it in addition to the On-Demand content and just helped solidify the simple concepts and recognition of different types of problems. Because I used this in 2025, there are some sections that are not required anymore. So this book is now outdated just a touch. Overall, the Big 5 sections are still imperative and the more problems exposed to, the better for passing.
