I am not particularly paranoid, but with all the buzz about lithium battery fires while charging I have taken to using these NEARPOW Auto Shut Off Timers to control the length of time I charge a battery. I have 2 of these timer on a special shelf adjacent to my workbench where I charge all the lithium batteries for my various tools and lights. It is real easy to plug in the charger, attach the battery and push the time button to start the process. Most batteries will fully charge from a good charger in less than 4 hours.This way I only charge the batteries for the required time and then turn off the power. I guess that telling you I also have a chemical fire extinguisher nearby would probably not reinforce that I am not paranoid.These timers can be easily set for any time you want and have an internal clock that allows you to set a time that is repeated every 24 hours. This features would be great for Christmas lights or other routine timing operations like being on vacation. There are other slightly less expensive models of this sort of timer on the market, but having the display that shows exactly the time left, is well worth the extra buck or two.

I had other timers like this but they lacked a readout of the time remaining. I love the fact that this timer has that feature and that by pressing the button, or another button, again you can add time. With the others in some situations I had to turn them off and then on again to be certain they would remain on again for as long as I needed. I mostly use these to supply power long enough to use expensive appliances or electronics so the remainder of the time power is disconnected from them in case the power line or my photovoltaic system are struck by lightning and the surge protector fails or is not of sufficient size to protect the devices. I recently lost my television that way and figured these are cheap insurance so that does not happen again.

I learned recently that leaving electronics plugged in was really bad for the battery. Although they don't have memory like old batteries charging it to 100%, and then keeping it at 100% by letting it charge every night for 6-8 hours, kills the battery quickly. So I have been pretty good about unplugging it before I fall asleep, except when I don't. Thought this would allow me to give it an hour of charge, or 15 minutes, or whatever I think it needs, without me trying to remember to unplug it before I fall asleep.And I think it will work. It has two plugs, one on each end, and is easy to set. Hit the on buttons for how much time you want. Need 17 minutes, hit the 15 min button once, and the 1 minute button twice. 17 minutes later it shuts off. The repeat is a bit confusing, but believe if you say you want it on for 1 hour each morning, you set it one morning for the hour, hit repeat and every morning it will again turn on for a one hour countdown. But, like I said, almost perfect. When it is counting down the display is lit and it is really bright. I like my bedroom really dark, and when this is on will be like a night light. The other problem is apparent in one of my pictures, if you have an outlet and switch in one junction box, it is a tiny bit too long. If it were 1/4 inch shorter, you could at least use one plug and the switch. I would imagine if you have two outlets next to each other, it would cause a similar problem.But those are minor, and may not be problems for your intended use, just things to be aware of. Appears to be well built, works well, and hopefully will turn out to be a small investment to protect my phone.

I always WORRY STRESS & FEAR whether I’ve turned OFF my 800w electric heater?, or other small appliances. This count down timer gives me. PEACE knowing that even if I forget, the count down timer will shut it OFF for me!, helping to prevent a potential fire from a forgotten device or appliance.

If you are looking for a simple, accurate countdown device to cut off electricity for a specified number of hours, minutes and seconds...this is it! Wish the numbers were a little larger.

I have them set up on my grow lights for my plants and they work great.

It seems that the power-off memory only works for a single countdown timer. If you have it set to do a daily repeating timer, then that is forgotten and you will need to reprogram it again. Seems a bit of an odd limitation.Also, to use the daily repeat function you must start the timer at the time of day that you want it to repeat since there is no clock to set.If you want a simple and easy to set countdown timer then this is a good choice. However if you want more functionality such as a built in clock for doing schedules, multiple programs, random on/off etc. then other models are available for the same price that do a lot more but are more complex to configure.Display is clear, easy to read and bright enough to see in daylight. The display does not turn off so beware if you don't want bright white lights at night. Buttons and operation is simple enough that almost anyone should be able to figure it out.Note: There are no UL, CE or other safety / testing certifications. Also there is no contact information for the manufacturer or warranty information.

Used for charging electric bike battery safely. Works ok so far.
