Q: On a scale from one to ten, how potent is the smell before its opened?

I would guess a 1. Not real noticable but you definitely can tell what's inside. I put my unopened package in an ammo can and opened the ammo can few months later and the ammo can smelled almost like I had opened the bottle. It is the real stuff so do be careful with it.

Q: Did anyone tried it on their dog as a tick repellent? Mine was sprayed by a skunk last year and did not get attacked by ticks for 4 months.

Applying this product to your pet dig would be cruel. To the dog and to anyone that spends time in the dog's vicinity. Find a product meant for use as a tick repellant

I used it outside, so it didn't stay long, but even skunk smell , you smell it strong and then it lingers off. it should smell stonger in a enclosed area.
