One of the best performing ice cream/yogurt makers, regardless of price!
This is one of the best home ice cream makers/yogurt maker out there.....yes, it also makes yogurt! I also have a Whynter 2.1 qt, which is very good but I like the paddle on this one a little better, in that it mixes the ice cream more completely when it's nearly finished. It's relatively quiet, and in addition to ice cream, has a yogurt function that lets it ferment 8 hrs before chilling it....pretty cool! I like the controls on it, and are similar to the Delonghi model. I like the knob control a little better than holding a button to change time, and you can change time on the fly, unlike my Whynter. It's made several great batches, and my only real complaint for ALL home machines is the paddle doesn't scrape the sidewalls, which slows freezing. It has a motor shut off to prevent it from being damaged by extra-firm ice cream stalling it. And the compressor also has a thermal shut off if you make lots of batches without letting it cool in-between. And at $150, you can't beat the price. This is one of the machines where the "hoarder" in me wants to get a second one, just in case they don't sell them anymore, and this eventually wears out!

Kinda Awful. Noisy failure.
First impression is that this machine is way too noisy for a small appliance. I don't even know if it was defective or working they way it was made. It's rather obviously not a high end product. It's very difficult to find any customer support info from this company and when you do manage to get a person, the interaction is almost comical. clearly not a brand that specializes in ice cream machines. they kept referring to this as an ice maker and giving me suggestions for regarding making ice. that was rather ironic given that the end product of this machine is more like suspended ice bits in a soft milky pool.bad first impression that didn't really get any better after 4 batches. I even gave the yogurt function a try and ended up with a sour smelling mess that was clearly inedible. I'm just going to treat this like silly experiment that wasted about half my day and cut my losses.

Great price for a compressor machine, but no apparent warranty or support after sale
The media could not be loaded. For years I’ve had a Cuisinart ICE-50; it was loud and a bit fiddly but it also made good ice cream, so replacing it with a quieter one seemed too expensive. Then the folks at the Wirecutter gave the Whynter 1.6 Qt. machine their seal of approval while mentioning that it was quiet (well, less loud - it’s about the same as my KA mixer at low speed). But still too pricey. Then I saw this Della, this nice, shiny, oddly inexpensive Della. Most of the ice cream compressor machines are all just about the same size, have 1.6 or 2.1 Qt. capacity, have similar functionality , and in a given size the lids/dashers/bowls look identical. Almost all of them are made by one company in China that designs and produces white label machines to spec for companies to sell under their own brands. Most important: the mechanicals are the same. An extra lid and bowl for the Whynter fit exactly in the Della, for example. At half the price, I figured it was worth a shot. I sold my noisy ICE-50 the day the Della arrived and made a batch of ice cream that evening. 30 minutes after I poured in the base it was ready to move to the freezer. It makes great ice cream, and it’s significantly quieter than the older machine.Updates to the description:--the Della also has a yogurt making mode. Not frozen yogurt, but a “put the milk in, add your cultures, it’ll heat it gently for 8-12 hours to culture the yogurt, and then chill it” (I have not tried this yet).--There is no setting for soft or hard ice cream (maybe there is on the 2.2 qt. version that’s in most of the pics) and no “Free recipe book” was included.--If the machine is not stored upright (and when it arrives since you don't know what the shipper did), place it upright and let it sit for several hours (another brand recommends at least 8 hours or overnight) before using it. You can permanently damage the compressor if it has not been stored upright and you run it without allowing the refrigerant to settle back to the base of the compressor. Why only three stars? (It sounded good so far....)--You're accepting the risk that you may have no support options should the unit fail (it may be a bargain at $140, but maybe not if something goes wrong and you can't get it fixed).--Della has a website, but these machines aren’t on it, and there is absolutely no warranty or repair service information in the manual or on the packaging. There is no information at all about support after purchase. I tested it the day after it came to make sure it wasn’t DOA in case I needed to return it.--Neither Della nor OneBigOutlet (seller) replied to questions I sent them by email or to a question submitted on Amazon asking about a warranty. Given that, I don't expect them to provide much support. So it seems you're buying it "as is"; otherwise I may even have said 5 stars.--The only way I know to get accessories for this unit is to buy them from Whynter, Della doesn’t appear to offer them.--I am keeping the machine and like it, but I'm also betting that nothing will go wrong. It’s the only appliance I’ve purchased with no warranty information in the manual or on the package, and neither Della nor the seller responded to questions.[EDIT 4/6/18] A User Manual has been added to the product information above, but it is not the same manual that was shipped in the box. The included manual doesn’t even include “Della” branding. It’s generic, with no contact information. There still is no information about a warranty.

Does not make ice cream and is extremely noisy
I didn't buy this from Amazon, but from another online reseller and it is the exact same model that gets shipped directly from the manufacturer. It's terrible. I added the mixture and let it go for about an hour and a half and it's nothing but a soupy cream mixture. Unfortunately, I let it sit in the box for a few weeks before using it, so cannot return it (yes it was sitting right side up). It is extremely noisy as well, just terrible noise, worse than a washing machine. I just wanted to write this review for anyone thinking that this is a cheap alternative to the quality name brand products of the same design. Well, it's just cheap and junk.
