It won't sound when you hit the area where the 3 is at. The decorative macrame band that wraps around the drum kept falling so I have to take it off. I didn't returned it because I'm not a professional drum player and I only use it for meditation. I give it 3 stars because the carrying bag and the booklet that comes with it is very nice. In conclusion, if you need a good quality drum because you want to learn how to play it this might not be it.

this is not a top notch instrument, mostly for personal use trying to play around and relax in your couch, the resonance is ok in my opinion but for this price and to add something different to your music taste I would buy this again.

I've seen these played before and was impressed with the unique sound. Decided it was time to get one.- This one is good sized at 14 inches, and has an equally big sound.- It has a very nice dark blue crackle finish. The inside is finished as well.- The rim is covered by a rubber ring, I assume to dampen unwanted resonances. It's hidden under a woven string band that I've seen on other tongue drums.- There is a hole in the back plugged by a removable rubber plug. If you managed to drop something through the slots, you can get it out.- The tongues are labeled with ugly number stickers, but us beginners need something. They are removable, so you can easily get rid of them once you don't need them. There's a strip of extras in the kit, too.- Tuned to the key of D, so 1 is D, 2 is E, 3 is F#, etc.- Most of the tongues give a clear ethereal note. A couple have enough harmonic content to sound a bit muddy, but still have that ethereal quality. One, the low F#, has so many strange harmonics that it's hard to tell what note it's supposed to be. Sounds kinda clanky. It's almost as if all the other tongues are ringing with it. I've struck it every which way, hard, soft, various places other than the center, etc, but without much improvement. Bummer. Plenty usable without that note, but I would love to have it.- Comes with a couple rubber mallets, and four "finger mallets", little rubber balls attached to finger rings. I've seen people play tongue drums with just their fingers, but I haven't been able to get a good sound that way, so these finger mallets are actually getting used.- The case is padded and should protect the drum pretty well.Overall a fun and different instrument to mess with. It'll be a while before I'm worth two cents on it.
