Clubland Work It Out [DVD]

Great DVD but not for beginners
I purchased this DVD a couple of months ago to keep my fitness collection of DVDs varied. It follows the usual format, in that the DVD is broken down into sections which include warm up, aerobics, dance section, combat section, toning & cool down/stretch.I am 50 and love the music, style and format of this DVD, so don't be put off if you are "older" like me but find DVDs such as Rosemary Conley (which I previously liked) a little stiff and boring after a while. Try this and you will be hooked!I did watch this briefly through before attempting and decided that the dance section wasn't for me but if you love club style dancing then I would imagine it would be good fun. I do the warm up, aerobics, combat & toning, plus the cool down and this gives about an hour long workout which I alternate with other dvds 4 times a week. In particular I've found this dvd really does tone and firm your bum.It delivers for me as it fast paced, challenging and not boring, you really do feel like you have had a good workout and it certainly gets the heart pumping and makes you sweat.I would say that if you are new to exercise or this format/style of DVD, then this is not a great one to start with as some of the moves are complicated and Deanne doesn't always coach the moves thoroughly, you basically have to pick it up. Some of the Ministry of Sound DVDs with Gareth Walker in my opinion are easier to pick up and more thoroughly explained.Personally I am a fan of Deanne, as I like her smiley, enthusiastic and motivating manner, and although she wears quite revealing, raunchy outfits in some of the sections, she has a fabulous figure and is basically showing you what you could achieve if you stick with it (along with a sensible diet).I would have given this 5 stars, however my only small criticism is that the music & sound on this DVD are not that great, especially when compared to Deanne Berry on the MOS dvds.Overall, another great fitness DVD with Deanne Berry which I always enjoy doing and it never feels like a chore to get through..

Great fun!
I bought this DVD as I wanted a more dance-based fitness DVD, and I normally buy Davina's ones. It did not dissapoint me! The music is really good and motivates you to continue, however knackered you are! The pace is fairly easy - it only took me one go before I could keep up. It works all aspects of your body really well, and all the routines are fun. I especially like the fact that you can do the routines without instructions from Deanne - her voice does get a little annoying! I also think she makes it all look a little too easy - her body is amazing and she wears very little clothes - I don't think that by doing this DVD alone, we would achieve her look!!I would recommend it to anyone looking to get fitter, tone up, or just have some fun!

Generally sound workout but production is cheap and nasty.
I adore 'MOS Pump it up: lose it; burn it' so I decided that it would be rude not to try other Deanne Berry workouts. It appears that the 'Clubland' brand is a different animal to MOS so Deanne has effectively 'jumped ship'.I actually like this workout but it's not as good as 'burn it; lose it' despite replicating some of the moves. I would decribe the aerobics section as '1980s feel the burn Jane Fonda with re-jigged dance moves from burn it; lose it'. That's not necessarily a criticism as the workout is thorough. The Xtreme combat section is more challenging than 'burn it; lose it' and the pace is faster, therefore I can't fault it other than the fact that the faster pace results in a greater risk of injury to the uninniated. I haven't attempted the dance section so I cannot comment on that at all.As I have mentioned, I like this workout and I alternate it with other faves but there are some drawbacks (hence the 3 stars): the production quality is atrocious. This DVD is cheap and nasty and I'm not just referring to the dodgy outfits that Deanne and the gang are sporting. There is a general air of tackiness that pervades this DVD, which, depending on your viewpoint, you will either view as 'good fun' or downright awful and offputting. On a technical level, this DVD is poorly shot (very amateurish) and the worst crime is the fact that the music doesn't blend into the next track resulting in an awkward break in the routine where Deanne engages in a few minutes of embarrassed toe tapping. This creates a very disjointed feeling that is not acceptable on a workout DVD.Deanne's cueing is good and appropriate. Also, when she cues right, for example, you can follow her mirror image without confusion.A small point: there are both male and female dancers, on this DVD, performing the routine. The women, in particular, are not simpering size zero wannabes: these girls are strong, fit and more amazonian in stature. Personally, I think this is a good thing as their healthy body shapes will act as a positive role model for impresionable young girls who may persue 'skinny' as the only viable option for acceptability. In summary, Deanne Berry is her usual cheery-chirpy self and the routine is good and works up a sweat. The production quality of the DVD is bad but can be overlooked if your main interest is a good workout. Unfortunately, there are other DVDs, on the market, that combine an effective workout with professional quality production.
