Heartbreaking and sexy - THIS is Laura Palmer
One of the mot important parts of the Twin Peaks universe. This book is essential reading for all those who love Twin Peaks and seek to understand the most important character in a story spanning more than 25 years: Laura herself. You should read it between watching the first and second seasons, just as it was released back in 1990. Then when you watch Fire Walk With Me and The Return, you will keep remembering things in this book that are relevant to the core of the story: that a young woman was killed and the tragedy upended the lives of all who knew her in myriad ways.

Get more immersed in the bizarre world of Twin Peaks with this remarkable text.
Fantastic book that is a must for any twin peaks fan. The fact that it is written by David Lynch's daughter gives it authenticity and the text does not let you down. If you're buying it for the forewords though, don't bother, as they're very short and give very little away. But, if you want to find out more about Laura, the Black Lodge and the infamous BOB, then buy this book. The book provides a chilling "first-hand" account of Laura's escapades from her 12th birthday to her untimely demise at just 17, taking you right up to the start of the Twin Peaks TV Series. If you've not seen the Twin Peaks film, a prequel to the TV series called "Fire Walk With Me", then watch it before reading the diary as the Film was made before the Diary was published, as such the Diary may contain spoliers for the film (I've not seen the film yet, but am making an assumption based on the film being a prequel and the diary being set before the Twin Peaks TV series). Twin Peaks is not just a TV series, it's a state of mind.

Very believable Twin Peaks companion
Once Laura's murder was solved in the TV show I felt empty as I really didn't want the story to end, so I decided to read Laura's diary so that I could get a deeper incite into what the girl had went through...This book didn't disappoint, I got what I wanted from it, I devoured it because it was so interesting and it features some very beautiful poems and it is written in a way that you can imagine visually in your mind what is going on.I don't recommend this book to anyone who is sensitive to bad language, horror or sex. As although the book doesn't go too in-depth in its detail,it is still rather erotic in nature.I recommend it to anyone who enjoyed the TV show.

I really don't think fans of the show would like it because it is so different
I've seen Twin Peaks a few times now and I had to buy this book after finally seeing Fire Walk With Me since I wanted to read more about Laura as she was one of the most interesting characters from Twin Peaks. The book takes place between Laura's 12th birthday until her death, which was the time period where she was being abused by BOB. The tone is far darker than anything in the show, which is surprising considering it was released during the start of the second season. I really don't think fans of the show would like it because it is so different, the soap opera element is gone and instead there are situations of deviance and drug deals gone wrong. It was more like Fire Walk With Me in a way, but different situations that playout feel a little bit too over the top, even by Twin Peaks standards. Though there are several mentions of characters and locations, like the Tremonds and the bookhouse, but it just feels like they are going through the motions for fan service's sake.A lot of the things suggested about Laura's hidden side in the show like her reliance on drugs and sexual habbits come into play in the book but at a point so early in her life that I was left wondering how she ever lasted so long, especially without anyone noticing, which was another reason the story felt hard to believe. She was doing some of these things in Twin Peaks, at least in the show she worked at One Eyed Jack's or in the movie she was out of town working with Teresa Banks. Considering the town is so small you would expect word to get around. These moments aside, the diary entries were completely believable as a victim of abuse. There were several inconsistencies between the book, the show and the movie. It almost seems like Laura wasn't friends with Donna at all, as she had no time for her. Leo and Bobby start off as friends in the book, but I always felt like they barely knew eachother in the show. Bobby also does certain things that made me think it was the first time doing them (drug deal related) but here it's happening at 15 years old, it just seems weird. There was also a lot about Leo in this book but as I was reading I didn't imagine the same Leo from the show, him and Jacques were far too accomodating of Laura. The writing style of diary entries from certain dates throughout Laura's life is a nice gimmick but sometimes there are moments where you would think she wouldn't remember all of this or that she shouldn't have time to jot this down in such an intricate manner. The book is fairly short (184 pages) and left me wondering if it had been rushed for the release of season two especially because 10 or so pages are missing towards the end of the book, though it could just be to tie in with the show. A few character names are mispelled also: Amory Battis instead of Emory (he even has a name plate on his desk in the show, Maddie Ferguson instead of Maddy, etc. I don't know how one of the co-creator's daughter's could not have noticed something like this. The ending was quite abrupt and I felt unsatisfied by it, which might be the diary's downfall, since there was no actual detail about how she died in that train car. It's a well written book but I don't think I would recommend people read it as the film does pretty much all of it better and the tv show does have subtle hints about Laura and what happened to her, which I thought was enough to imagine what she was like/what she was going through. The inconsistencies made me more frustrated that anything, but the book really nailed the atmosphere and really got into the mind of an abuse vicitm.

dark but not twin peak-sy enough
It's a good book and by good I mean for a fan of twin peaks. Laura's life thoughts and fantasies spun from the day she turns 12 to the day she drops the diary to Harold and dies at the age of 16. It's a dark life of a damaged teenager that got into all dark stuff due to her abuse from the onset. For those who are just discovering the world of twin peaks it's a must read BEFORE watching 'fire walk with me' and even the series this three instalments form a more or less complete story. The only problem for me was that the book could be a bit more twisty with some more of that 'let's rock' factor. Nonetheless I'm giving it 5 stars as I'm a huge fan of the franchise and this filled the void between now and 2016 when foretold third season will air...

Great book, need a shower after reading parts of it
So reading a young precocious 11 year olds decent into adolescent madness at the hands of a litany of abusers does not make for easy reading, but look into any classroom in the world and you with find a young girl suffering just as badly. It ought to be a call you action.
