Awesome skimmer on a budget.
Have had this for a week and it is an excellent skimmer for the money. I read other reviews about pump strength blowing the top lid off. I had this problem as well out of the box and had to watch a You tube video. You need to pull the outlet (sponge tipped) outtakes out and put them back in careful that you don’t push ty in to far. The way they are shipped causes backflow preventing the water from draining quick enough. If you do this then you should have no issues. It has worked great since then and is pulling a ton of sludge out of my 75 gallon mixed reef.

Couldn't get it to work without blowing water out of the top
I tried to set it up--water coming out of the top like a fountain. My son worked for over an hour last night using youtube videos to help and the water continued to blow out of the top like a fountain. Because I needed help from my son--return window has long closed. Not the seller's fault but the product itself.

Great Skimmer for the price !!!
I have run this model of skimmer for six years and it has worked perfectly. It takes three or four weeks to break it in, after that it does the same job that the big brands do. I just bought another one to have as a spare because it is getting hard to find. For the first week or two keep the red knobs turned all of the way down and open the air valve but keep the bubbles at the bottom of the cone until the skimmer breaks in. After that do small adjustments until you get it set for your aquarium volume. Thanks

Would pay a few dollars more for one with a valve
This thing is big and cheap. It needs a valve added between the pump and the skimmer, without one, it was blowing the collection cup off the body of the skimmer, and spraying water all over. Went and got a valve. It’s still breaking in, but seems safe to use for now. They should add a valve and charge the few extra dollars. It would still be a great deal for this size skimmer.Edit: After letting it run a day, it decided to start filling the cup up, and over, flooded a bit. I added a float switch to kill power when the cup is full. Still with all these mods it’s cheaper than most other skimmers this size.Stuff you’ll want to add:Valve between the pump and the skimmer.Float switch in the collection cup, connected to some sort of relay that you plug the skimmer in to. I found a wiring diagram for when I did similar for my sump return pump. Most 2 wire float switches I’ve found can have the floater be normally open or normally closed just by pulling the floater off the switch and flipping it over.

No clear instructions
I'm just setting up my skimmer (or trying to). There are no clear instructions on how to assemble the skimmer. So far I have not been able to assemble it myself and have found no online help for the set-up of this mini version. The problem is there are no diagrams or pictures to let you know what the instructions are talking about or which parts they are asking you to connect. It's a bit of a guessing game, really. I'll update my review after I figure out how to assemble it, but for now I'm stuck. Another issue is that the measurements of the footprint do not include room for water intake or the cord. Because of the inaccuracy of measurements in the description, these do not fit in my sump and will need to be returned.

Very good skimmer!
This protien skimmer does the job! It's a bit finikee to get it to work right but once its broken into it works like a charm! I've used it as a hang on back skimmer and for in sump! Works good both ways! The pump is amazing on this thing as well.

Pump stopped working after 2 weeks
Worked great for 2 weeks. Came home and found the pump in 2 pieces. One of the tabs that holds the impeller casing on had broken. Set up was very easy, took a few days to get it to start breaking in but didn't have any problems till the pump gave out. For the price I wasn't expecting much compared to more expensive skimmers but at least expected it to last longer then 2 weeks.

Best bang for your buck$$$$
Super happy with this purchase! I was very skeptical about buying a skimmer since it was my 1st time, but I've got to say this unit is working wonders. It was very easy to set up. I had it dialed in after 2 days on my 75 gallon reef tank. It has been producing skimmate like crazy! I read many reviews saying that this particular skimmer was noisy, but I can't hear it. I would highly recommend this skimmer to anyone on a budget. I will post any updates if something changes in the future. 5 starsUpdate: 1-5-20Still going strong! Still very quiet and no signs of slowing down. Make sure you have the correct water level or you'll have trouble with over flowing.
