worked on my ATH M40 headphones
I looked forever to find this product, black, but for the ATH M40. It just didn't exist in any color other than brown (ew). So I bought this one, which is for the ATH M50, and it fits just fine. Anyone who doesn't want a brown replacement cover for their black ATH M40s, should consider just buying this one instead. The one main negative to this product is in the installation directions. They aren't great. Despite that, I was able to do this in less than fifteen minutes. Anyone with enough patience and skill can manage this if they take their time, use common sense, and carefully observe how the old one was put together. Everything you need is included, even a piece of tape for the headphone wire and the screwdriver you need for disassembly.Removing the old one was simple, and getting the new one on was only slightly tricky. This could be due to the fact that I was putting an ATH M50 cover onto an ATH M40 but they're so similar in size that I doubt it. It's just a bit of a tight fit, which is necessary to preserve that factory look. Practice getting the alignment right before you remove the backing from the tape. Once you stick the tape onto the headband, carefully stretch the fabric around the band until the foam section is correctly aligned, stick the velcro together, and reassemble. I had to manage the wire inside the headband and make sure it didn't get pinched during reassembly, I don't know if that would be the same on the ATH M50. I assume so, because there is a piece of tape in just the right spot for you to stick the wire on to hold it still. The tape isn't super-sticky but it doesn't need to be; the velcro is doing the heavy lifting there.Despite being used for headphones not in the recommended list, fit and finish were just fine. The material feels about the same as what I replaced, just typical pleather over a thin foam cushion. The foam is thicker in this replacement than what was originally in it. That's a plus. And, the color matches. After installation, the headband replacement looks like it belongs there. It looks really close to factory, actually. It only lacks the brand name logo that the original had, and I don't care about that. The cushion is slightly thicker, which adds a small amount of comfort to what was already a comfortable-to-wear headphone. Looking at it now, no one can tell I've had these for almost a decade.Very pleased with this product and would recommend.

Pretty Darn Good! 👍
My old headband was falling apart, and this is by far the best head strap replacement you can get! Not going to lie—the price is a bit steep for what you’re getting, but it 100% makes up for it with the easy installation. I’ve seen other headband replacements that require you to completely remove one earpiece to slide the new headband on, and that’s entirely too much of a hassle. The installation process was super easy—all you need are scissors and the included screwdriver. It took me less than 10 minutes from start to finish. As other reviewers noted, the headband padding is thinner and lower quality than the original, but an easy solution is to double up with the new and old padding. Just use both on top of each other, and it provides more than enough cushion for the top of your head. Combined with an earpad replacement, this can easily extend the life of your M50x headphones for years!

Okay Replacement
Nicely made and went on easy enough. I agree with other reviewers that you don't need to use the sticky tape attached to it; it fits snugly enough that tape is not requried (ATH-M50x here). Unlike another reviewer, I thought the little screwdriver included was pretty good. Nice shape and feel and magnetized too. Took one star off because the cushioning foam of this replacement is only about ~4mm thick, whereas Audio-Technica's original foam was ~6mm, so it is a bit harder ride on top of your head.

Perfect replacement part with excellent tools and instructions!
I had replaced the ear cups on my Audio Technica M50Xs a couple years ago and the top band was starting to flake really badly. I decided to check out if I could find a replacement band and found this one. I gotta say I was really impressed that not only did it come with a screwdriver, but a magnetic one at that which was very ergonomic. It also came with an extra adhesive strip incase you made a mistake with the first one. Packaging was compact, easy to get through, and the instructions were very clear with pictures included making installation take somewhere between 5-10 minutes. 10/10 would recommend this for anyone who needs a replacement band. You can see a little bit of the velcro seam on the back, but it is barely noticeable and the texture/color is a perfect match!
