Bad Ass! I love this Orange Pi Fast and Powerful
I am really pleased with this purchase overall. It's a super fast and capable SBC that rules out all performance problems I have had with other devices when I push an edge in it's use. Overall, I have not been disappointed in its performance. Notes to buyers - No Wifi onboard - Get a M.2 its a simple choice and makes the unit complete - BT Keyboard/Mouse because it can be used as a desktop and it's competent.

Great mini computer
This device is fast! I placed ubuntu on it and it works great and uses very little watts.

Alternative to Raspberry, Cortex A55/A76 processors. Runs Linux... But sometimes it is flaky.
I was impressed by assembly quality and careful packaging, and was able to make a SD card with stock Ubuntu Linux and run web browsing and even installed Visual Studio Code on it. The board is fast, but sometimes becomes sloppy or temporarily un-responsive without any reason. It also loses synchronization on my Samsung 4K TV once in a while. I did not use the board long enough to see the pattern, but I rule out thermal issues as I installed heatsinks and temperature of the processor does not exceed 45C. It is not stable with USB Ethernet adapter, but works reliably with on-board Ethernet. In my impression, Raspberry Pi 4 is more stable and reliable. That is why OrangePi5 gets only 4 stars.

The Orange Pi 5 is good
The Orange Pi 5 got no issues and works as intended, no problem there tho i had issues with the seller, first they didn't send the package with the right IOSS papers so i had to pay the tax myself again, and the second issue is when i tried to get a refund for the tax i already had paid through Amazon did i start by refusing to give me the refund, even tho they where the ones at fault for the issue, i did end up pursuing him to give me a refund on the $42 but it was really not easy

Great little mini server with very low power requirements
Raspberry Pi 4s have been impossible to get lately, so I decided to look at other options for my Home Lab. I'm glad I did, this kicks the Pi4's butt for CPU performance, and you can get them with more memory - I got a 16GB model. It has a M2 slot, and I put a Samsung 512GB NVMe drive in and it crushes the Pi for disk IO, especially for random writes. There are a couple of minor down sides - it doesn't have WIFI, and for some reason they didn't include M2 screws so I had to buy those separately. While it has GPIO pins, they're a different pinout than the Raspberry Pi so you can't use RPi Hats easily. All that said, if you're looking for something to run as a small file server or for Home Assistant, this is ideal - it has more CPU cores than an RPi and you can get models with more RAM than the Pi. Update: I've had it over a year and I'm still super happy with it. I'm using it as a server, not with GPIO, so the GPIO pinout not being identical to rPi hasn't been an issue.

orange pi 5 16gb
My thought on this sbc is it has great performance for it value but it dose suck that you can''t hook up an external usb ssd or a hard drive to it without struggle you have to search all over the internet just to find you have to do some command line codes just to get them to work but they don't work by them selves you have to still have the sd card in it to even get them to read how is it that it can read a usb thumb drive so easy i had no problems with any thumb drives i'm just so confused other then that I've had a really good experience when it come down to some of the operating systems that you can put on it Armbian is probable hand down the best operating system when it come to a regular desktop environment but still has some bugs but not bad ones i can find android operating systems can be a little iffy to put on the orange pi 5 bc of the way they have them put on there website you have to use there tool to flash it to the sd card in which i don't mined but you have a chance that when you flash it on it can corrupt your sd card but Ik it a new sbc i hope they give us better support when it comes to external ssd and hard drives

Quality has degraded over the past few years
I have 5x OrangePi5-8GB I purchased a few years ago and after jumping through some of the early teething pains, have them successfully clustered, booting off of nvme, and no serious issues. I recently buy a new OrangePi5Pro-16GB to do some additional AI/ML work, and they stripped out SPI flash to save $0.10 which was a showstopper for me, so returned. So much for "pro". I instead bought another Pi5-16GB version which I already know well and this time, reflashing for Nvme boot (SPI and MTD) no longer works, the network chip won't work with the same switch the earlier 5x Pi5's are plugged into, and somehow OrangePi has taken a quirky system and made it worse over the past few years. They have already moved on to making a Pi6 which should be out at some point, so certainly don't see this situation improving anytime soon. So much potential, but disappointing company.

Poor software support, no wifi
This single board computer suffers for poor support for prebuilt software and doesn’t have integrated WiFi. No wifi is a deal killer.
