I’m a big fan of the VisionAid Magnifier and it’s really helped me to up my miniature assembly and painting game!I’d previously tried quite a few alternatives before from other suppliers but always found them to be too cumbersome - they either get in the way generally or not offer enough light or magnification to make it worthwhile.With the VisionAid, it’s really lightweight and comfy to hold or easy to set up using its freestanding mode. The light has four different settings to help you pick what’s right for you - I’ve found the warm light (option 2) to be my favourite although when I’m paying particular attention to colour then option 1 is more colour accurate.Whichever option you choose though the image is really clear with the 30x magnification. I was able to spot new issues with models I’d previously painted that since look way better now I’ve gone back and touched them up. I’ve also found it unexpectedly to be a great way to photograph my models through the lens and share them with friends and fellow hobbyists!Finally it’s also worth mentioning the case. Being a parent of small kids having a nice hard-shell case to securely put the magnifier away is really helpful. It’s also a good size and just generally makes it look and feel even more premium. Definite recommend for anyone else that needs to see small details up close!

Really good product excellent clarity with four light modes. Handy for close up work, threading needle's, changing watch batteries etc.Comes in a nice storage case.

I bought this tool for two purposes.A) prior to purchasing an item, eg vintage stamp or watch, to see the defects with clarity.B) assist in some minor research (stamps) and basic maintenance (watches).Magnification is extremely good, the stand (though maybe a bit light) ensures both hands are free to work, the lights are really very good to ensure excellent visibility.

Why did you choose this product over others?:It had led lights around the magnifier and could be powered by batteries or USB. The first delivery didn't work properly but I contacted Vision Aid directly (I couldn't thru' Amazon) the provided a replacement with no quibbling. The VA team were very good communicating but I didn't realise at first that there was a time delay due to them being in the US.

The magnification isn't sufficient for my needs which is close up electrical circuit repairs. The cable is proprietary on one end meaning you cannot just use a longer standard USB cable. Running it from a USB wall plug is impractical due to short length of the cable. Running it from a USB power brick the light goes off after about 10 seconds which is no use at all as you have to keep turning it back on again. Unless you can get what you need directly underneath it you have to hold it in your hand which is also not ideal. I would return it but I can't be bothered. It may come in useful one day for something else. It comes with no instructions at all. Also the title says "VISION AID 30X Hands-Free Magnifying Glass" but actually it's 3.0, ie, THREE times not 30. If i had noticed this I would not have bought it as I need much higher magnification. Buyers beware!

Excellent light that helps with craftingEspecially good for needle work and diamond art.

This is an easy to use magnifying glass, and the hands-free features and lighting are great. I find after a full charge I can only use it for a maximum of one hour before the lights go dim and it wants re-charging. I find the 40x loupe additional lens impossible to use because it's small and not hands-free, so it's really only useful for me for the 30x larger magnifying glass. That being said, if 30x is enough for your purposes then it's a great piece of equipment.
