Know your leather...
There are many leather treatments available and my major difficulty was choosing the right one for the type of leather I wanted to treat. Research showed that my sofa and chair are covered in ANILINE leather, that is leather that is natural and does not have a waterproof layer of paint or other material covering it. Dab water on aniline leather, it soaks in and darkens immediately then dries out again more slowly. Do the same with coated leather and the water stays on the surface and has little or no effect on the leather.Chambers Leather Balsam clearly states this and is intended therefore for aniline leather. I warmed the balsam pot in warm water for a while then used my fingers to rub it into the leather reasonably sparingly to see the leather darken and take on a nourished, even finish which I buffed up (to remove surface excess) after about 30 minutes. It has left a very healthy, rich finish that resists water and which, I am told, will eventually (few months) need re-treatment as the leather dries out again slowly - as shown when its water absorbency returns. If your leather doesn't absorb water then this balsam won't help it OR it already has been treated. I can only assume those who write that it doesn't work have not used the balsam on the right sort of leather or on leather that is already in a well treated state.Very effective, a little goes a long way and the un-scented has no scent at all - just how I like it.Know your leather!

Amaze Balls!!
Bought to clean and feed my smooth leather handbags. I have a few vintage coach bags that have come up an absolute treat after a do with this Leather Balm. You do need to go carefully so as not to slather on too much. It would make buffing off the excess (after the ten minute waiting period) hardwork. I bought the unscented version which smells very mildly of bees wax, yum! It is so easy to use and honestly gives a wonderful sateen finish to the leather. It may well darken the colour slightly so patch test to make sure you are OK with the finish. I have a purple vintage coach madison that had some colour fade. This balsam has brough it back to life. I have made my way through almost all of my bags and they look wonderful. I do think this will also provide protection against marks and obviously the drying out that occurs over time. Amazing stuff!

Definitely worth all the good reviews!
I purchased this wax based on the reviews on Amazon. I was looking for a good leather cleaner for a dark grey leather bag I have that had some minor scuff marks. Not only did it brighten up the whole look of the bag, adding a nice new sheen, it really helped fill in and cover the scuffs. It doesn't get rid of them completely, but made them barely noticeable and so it's definitely worth the buy in my eyes.I applied it with my hands as suggested, left it on overnight and buffed with a cloth the next day. Hey presto! The only down side is that it is on the expensive side for a standard sized tin of polish but then the natural materials it's made from and it's effectiveness likely account for that. I'd still definitely recommend.

Well Worth the effort
Very impressed - I have two large leather sofas which are old but have been little used. The leather is very good quality and I purchased them with the intension that they were an investment and would be with me for ever. Anyway after the unexpected arrival of kittens and associated claws the house was split into two areas - Cat Friendly and Cat Prohibited - the sofas ended up in a room the cats where banned from and as a result there use all but stopped. After 16 years the leather was still in good nick but felt a tad dry and had little sheen - this looked like the right product so thought I would give them a really good polish. The balsam is the constancy of soft shoe polish and whilst it took time and effort to "wax on - wax off" the two sofa's the result is great - the leather feels so much softer and more supple and has got a lovely sheen without being shiny.Takes time - but well worth the effort - I went for unscented which really is unscented but in hind sight wish I had gone for Vanilla. I have enough left to do both sofas again so good value for money

Wonderful Stuff
Our sofa is a full Aniline natural leather twelve years old from John Lewis, it’s slowly got lighter as the years have gone on so we decided to research leather cream restoration, we decided on this cream and as you can see it’s done a wonderful job, it’s not shiny which we didn’t want it’s still has the matt to look. I used gloves and a sponge pad (pictured) from Amazon and I buffed off as instructed after 30mins with a lint free towel from my car cleaning kit.
