Quality, indispensable item to any amateur artist who loves to sketch/paint outdoors
The Moleskin is so well designed that it is the perfect book to use for sketching in pen, pencil or painting watercolours. I am now on my fifth and can highly recommend to anyone from beginner through to professional who wants to have a pocket size book with such a durable cover, and good quality paper which lends itself to many mediums. I particularly love the durable elastic band that keeps the book closed and safe and find it very handy that I can slip a pen and pencil under the band if I am trying to be minimal. The Moleskin cover is waterproof and the size ideal for rucksacks, handbag or even a large pocket and whenever I have travelled abroad, always rely on it for durability and on our return can use my sketches to work up larger paintings. It always receives admiration for its quality and size and I use the storage flap on the inside of the back cover to store items on my travels.

Lovely paper, fantastic journals
Lovely thick paper. Has a medium texture, not too rough or too smooth, so it's good for a variety of media. Paper does warp slightly with watercolours, but that's to be expected. Journals lie flat throughout the book, great for ease of use. Have used "scotch magic tape" on paintings - and left the tape on for weeks - and peeled it off with no rips at all (magic tape sometimes rips the surface on more budget watercolour papers). Great journals for taking out and about! Moleskins are a bit expensive, but personally I think they're worth every penny.

Exceptional quality
It's a Moleskine product - you get what you pay for. In other words, you won't be disappointed!

Great for travel but …
This sketchbook is perfect for travel and is really well made. However in terms of painting although it can hold lots of layers of watercolour, paint dries extremely quickly. This makes it hard to produce wet on wet effects. But as I said for travel journaling/ sketching I would recommend.

Packaged very smartly with a printed label and in perfect condition. No complaints at all
I was told it would arrive between the 8th and 12th of April (I ordered on the 6th) and I was THRILLED when it came to my door this morning on the 7th! Packaged very smartly with a printed label and in perfect condition. No complaints at all :-DI bought the A4 version of this for a school art trip and whilst it was a pleasure to work with, trying to do something portrait was so annoying. This is a much friendlier size (although I have to now downsize my massive sketches haha)The paper is not as high as I would like (for me 300gsm is where I find I can really layer watercolour without wrinkling or seeing colour through the other side. I tried my first promarker sketch on this paper too but it bled through the page so beware here. Would also prefer an even smoother cold press.Overall looking forward to using it!

Must have A5 sketchbook
I bought this sketchbook for travelling but find myself constantly sketching and painting in it due to its amazing paper quality. A must have sketchbook.Yes, it is kind of expensive for a sketchbook but I assure you it's worth every penny. I looked through the comments and some people say not to paint on both sides. I didn't have a problem with doing this. The paper held the paint extremely well on both sides.I will definitely be buying this again! Any artist will love this book. I haven't looked back at my old cheap sketchbooks. This is the way forward!Came here fairly quickly and wrapped really well. Please know that this book is indeed A5. Partnered with the A4 Moleskin sketchbook you have all the ingredients for an amazing sketching/painting experience.Hope I was of some help! I have already recommended them to every artist I know.

A Quality Notebook.
Believe the hype, this is such a perfect notebook! The paper takes a variety of media including watercolours, ink, collages, acrylic, and pencils exceptionally well. The paper is textured (therefore not really suitable for lots of writing) but quite thick which is excellent for water based media and pens. Plus, I have only found that it buckles if the paper is saturated with lots of water, but this is the same for most watercolour notebooks anyway!I personally love the fact it's landscape (you can always turn it portrait if your drawings require)!Love the pocket in the back which is useful for photos you might be working from or scraps.Basically, it is a great all-round notebook. I'm considering this in the pocket size too!

Gorgeous smooth paper
Wow. What great paper. I am using this book for day to day sketchbooking. I love the Coptic style binding, which allows me to lay the book out flat and get a full landscape across two pages. I have used pencils, watercolour and ink pens successfully on this (although I haven't yet tried a heavy wash). The paper is a lovely, slightly off white colour, traditional to moleskin books and it feels buttery smooth. In terms of absorbency the paper isn't the most absorbent watercolour paper I have ever used, but I guess that's the compromise in order for you to get the smoothness of the paper. It does the job I want it to do as a watercolour paper that works with other mixed media.
