Game changer-- must have
I don't write reviews for things I buy very often, but this little machine has changed my life so much that I have to. Whoever invented this should be nominated for the Nobel Prize. This thing is a miracle machine. My son is 20 months old and I can count the number of times that he slept through the night on one hand-- that is until about 3 weeks ago when we bought this machine. I saw the concept of an "ok to wake" alarm but was not sure if it would work for a kid as young as mine. Then I saw a review from a lady with an 18 month old who seemed to have a similar sleep pattern to my son. My son would wake up 3-4 times every night and need some degree of soothing to go back down. If he woke up after about 3-4 am (what we came to know as 'the witching hour'), there would be no hope of getting him to go deeply back to sleep and the best you could do was get him to lay down and nod off for 15 minute increments for as long as you could. That worked best with one of sleeping on the ground beside the crib. At some point, he would wake fully up, and at that point there would be no getting him back to sleep. You just had to wake up and start the day with him. We tried really hard to at least get him to 5 am, but it didn't always work. 5:30 was a stretch goal and 6 seemed like a near impossibility. Enter the hatch. I followed the procedure used by the lady whose review I read-- I set the alarm for 5:30 on the first night after having a talk with him before bed about how the red light meant it was time to sleep and green meant it was ok to wake up. When he woke up in the night, we told him over the baby monitor that the light was still red so he would need to lay down. To our surprise, he actually did after a few minutes. He whined a little bit but didn't start to cry like he normally would if we didn't go in the room. He woke up fully that morning before the light turned green and started crying out for us. Like the woman described, I reset the wake time for about 5 minutes out so he would not have to spend so long in distress. Then when the light turned green, I went in and made a big production of how the light was green so he could wake up. Each day I set the time a few minutes later until we finally got to where it is currently set-- 6:15. I'm not sure why, but he just gets it. It took a couple of weeks of him waking in the night and whining for us but going easily back to sleep when we tell him over the speaker that the red light means it's still night night time. After a few weeks of that he does it completely on his own. If he wakes up, he looks at the red light and just goes back to sleep. Most nights now he sleeps fully through the night and does not wake up until after 6. If he happens to wake up fully before it turns green, he lays down watching it until it turns green then pops up. He's sleeping so well that he's in a great mood when he wakes up. We are sleeping better than we have in a long time ourselves. The thing isn't perfect-- I find the app a little wonky thought it is reasonably easy to use. I think it's a bit difficult to change the routine or wake time while the current routine is running. When you try, it just turns the machine off. That's annoying if you are trying to make a change while he is sleeping. Some of the more advanced features like the stories and lullabies are a bit too complicated for our boy I think. We keep it simple with orange light and quiet music to wind down with books before bed, red light with the ocean sound effect for sleep (I recommend a pretty good volume) and green light to wake up (keeping the sound going so he won't be woken by the change in sound and will still sleep if his body wants to). If we start wanting to encourage him to wake up at a certain time I think I will have the sounds change to birds chirping. Long story short-- this thing changed our lives, and I just gifted one to a friend who is expecting a baby to give her the gift of sleep.

Our Baby’s Sleep Secret Weapon
We’ve been using the Hatch Rest since our baby was a newborn, and honestly, it’s become a non-negotiable part of our sleep routine. The brown noise is like magic - it helps drown out all the little household sounds and signals to our baby that it’s time to wind down. Now, when it’s on, she knows it’s bedtime. And honestly? It helps us sleep better too lol, but be careful in the very beginning with a new born - we slept TOOOO good due to lack of sleep and were lucky my mom was there to feed & change her because we were dead to the world. What we love: • The sounds are soothing - brown noise is our go-to, but there are lots of options if you want to switch things up. • App control is a lifesaver. I love the option of being able to adjust the volume, light, or turn it on/off from our phone means no tiptoeing into the nursery and being able todo it while rocking baby to sleep. Of course with conveniency there comes a price, which is a monthly subscription lol. • The brightness is adjustable which is good • It grows with your child. We haven’t used the OK-to-wake clock yet, but it’s nice to know it’ll still be useful once we’re out of the baby stage. • Reliable and easy to use. Once it’s set up, it’s very plug-and-play. We have a schedule set and rarely think about it - which is a huge win in the fog of early parenting. What could be better: • The app isn’t always perfect. Sometimes it’s slow to connect, or it randomly logs us out. When you’re holding a half-asleep baby and trying to turn down the volume quickly, this can be super annoying. • Sometimes when you go to touch it to turn it on or off it’s a little wonky, but for the most part it’s pretty spot on. • It’s pricey. If you’re on a budget, you can get a basic white noise machine for a lot less. But the Hatch’s features do add convenience. At the end of the day, this little machine is on every night (and every nap), and we truly rely on it. Yes, it has quirks, but the good far outweighs the bad. If you’re building a sleep routine, this can be a real game changer.

An Essential Sleep Solution for Babies and Toddlers – The Hatch Rest Baby Sound Machine
The Hatch Rest has a sleek, modern design that blends well with any nursery or toddler room. It features a simple, circular shape with a soft, matte finish, giving it a clean, minimalist look. The soft-touch buttons on the top are intuitive and responsive, and the display is just the right level of brightness – not too bright to disturb sleep, but just enough to see easily in the dark. The compact size is ideal for placing on a nightstand, dresser, or shelf, and it doesn’t take up too much space, which is important when you’re dealing with the many items needed in a nursery. It’s also very lightweight, so moving it around or taking it when traveling is no hassle at all. Features and Customization: The Hatch Rest 2nd Gen model offers a ton of useful features that make it stand out from other baby sound machines. One of the most convenient aspects is the Wi-Fi connectivity. This allows me to control everything directly from my smartphone through the Hatch Sleep App (available for both iOS and Android). You can customize the sound, light, and sleep schedule without even having to touch the device itself. Sound Options: The sound options are incredibly versatile. The white noise setting is a game-changer for helping our baby sleep through household sounds, and there are other soothing sound choices like rain, ocean waves, heartbeat sounds, and lullabies. The fact that you can adjust the volume for each sound, depending on your baby’s preferences, is fantastic. Some nights we need a bit of a louder sound to block out noise from outside or other rooms, and on quieter nights, we turn it down for a more peaceful ambiance. It’s perfect for both newborns and toddlers. Night Light: Another standout feature is the night light. It has a wide range of adjustable brightness, from a soft, calming glow for nighttime feedings or diaper changes, to a brighter light that can be used for reading stories or as a comforting light in the room. The color-changing light is a huge plus—it can be customized to a color that fits the mood or even used as a sleep training tool. We use a soothing blue or soft pink light at bedtime to signal to our child that it’s time to wind down. Time-to-Rise Alarm Clock: The Time-to-Rise feature is one of the most helpful additions, especially as our toddler grows. This allows me to set a specific time for the light to change color, indicating when it’s okay for them to wake up. It’s an excellent sleep training tool. We set it to change to a brighter color in the morning to help our child understand when it's time to get out of bed. This has helped us a lot with our toddler’s morning routine, as they now know when it’s time to stay in bed and when it’s time to start the day. Ease of Use: The Hatch Rest is incredibly easy to use. The initial setup is a breeze, and the app is user-friendly, allowing you to adjust settings quickly. The fact that you can save different profiles (for example, one for nap time and one for bedtime) is so convenient. It also remembers all your settings, so you don’t have to constantly readjust. The physical buttons on the device itself are great in case you don’t want to use the app. There are simple buttons for turning the light on or off, adjusting the volume, and changing the sound, making it super easy to use without needing to rely on your phone. The sleep timer function is also easy to set, so you can have the sound automatically turn off after a certain period. Battery Life: The battery life is great when we take it on the go. Whether we’re traveling or just moving it around the house, the Hatch Rest is powerful enough to last for several hours if needed, even though it’s typically plugged in. We’ve never had any issues with the battery running out during the night. Benefits for Sleep Training: As a sleep trainer, this machine is invaluable. The ability to control the sound and light remotely has allowed us to create a consistent bedtime routine that signals to our baby when it’s time to sleep and when it’s time to wake up. The gradual light dimming option has been particularly helpful in establishing a nighttime routine that’s calming and predictable. The sound options have helped our baby sleep more soundly, and we’ve noticed fewer disruptions due to noise in the environment. Additionally, the customizable light settings have played a crucial role in helping our toddler grasp the concept of “wake-up time” and “sleep time,” making mornings easier for all of us. Final Thoughts: The Hatch Rest Baby Sound Machine, Night Light | 2nd Gen is absolutely worth the investment. It’s incredibly versatile, easy to use, and packed with features that make it an essential tool for any parent. The Wi-Fi control, customizable light and sound settings, and sleep training capabilities are just a few of the reasons why I highly recommend it. It has become an indispensable part of our bedtime routine and has made a noticeable difference in the quality of sleep for both our baby and us. If you’re looking for a high-quality, reliable, and smart sleep solution for your baby, toddler, or child, the Hatch Rest is the way to go!

Total game changer for bedtime
I got this as a desperate mom of my third baby. We got it hoping it would help our three month old. Maybe coincidence, maybe not, but the night we got this she started sleeping better. We leave it on for naps and all through the night too, and we even sleep with it on too since it’s in our room. You just tap it to turn it on and to change through the different settings which is convenient when you have a baby in hand. It’s slim which is nice on a cluttered nightstand. The colors are all adjustable and there’s a bunch of sounds to choose from too. You can adjust the brightness of the light which is helpful. My baby is 7 months now and is conditioned to know it’s sleep time when we turn it on. We are thinking of getting a second one for our toddlers room to let him know when he can come out in the morning since it has been so helpful for our youngest. The only thing I’m not in love with is the app which is why I knocked a star off. Everything is app controlled it seems now which is problematic when it doesn’t work perfectly. I believe only one phone can hook up to it on the app and so since my husband is the one who originally set this thing up he is the only one who can control it it seems (maybe I’m wrong but in that case it’s just not easy to figure out which is still annoying). I got the app and it isn’t recognizing our hatch to connect to and I’m assuming it’s because it is already connected to his phone. That’s super annoying since I’m the primary person to put her down for bed and I can’t change settings on it. You can still turn it on just by pushing the top but color changes, brightness, volume, sound changes is all on the app. Otherwise we love this and if I can figure out how to make it so we can both use it on the app I’ll give it 5 stars.

Our Must-Have for Sleep: From First Night Home to Toddlerhood
We’ve been Hatch advocates since the very beginning. When our baby girl was first born, the Hatch quickly became one of our most-used baby items. She started sleeping through the night at just 4 months, and I honestly believe it was because of the routine we created around it. Every night we had the Hatch set to a dim light and white noise. When she woke up, that soft glow was the perfect night light. It was bright enough for diaper changes but never harsh. We didn’t have to flip on the bedroom light, which kept the room calm and cozy and helped her stay in her sleep cycle. Fast forward to now, our little one is 14 months, and during a recent move we misplaced our original Hatch. I was so excited to see the new Hatch Baby and get it set up in her room. It’s been a total game changer. The features go beyond just white noise and a night light. The nursery stories and lullabies are such a sweet part of her bedtime wind down now, and I love being able to control everything from the app without going back into her room. The routine builder has made bedtime smoother, and I’m already looking forward to introducing the time-to-rise feature as she gets a little older. Not to mention, I absolutely love the physical buttons included on the Hatch Baby. In terms of user experience it makes it even easier for you to use. The button at the top make it easier to turn on and off and the the way it rotates to adjust sound is also much easier. This was a HUGE plus for my mom who is taking care of our little one during the day and is not as technically advanced. This manual option makes it easy for her. And now, with baby number 2 arriving in just a few months, I’m even more grateful we have this. What I’m most excited about is that Hatch Baby includes access to a sleep consultant for six months. With our first, we figured things out through trial and error, but every baby is different. Knowing I don’t have to relearn sleep schedules on my own this time takes such a weight off. After the initial 6 months, you can choose to renew if you want, but it doesn’t auto-renew, which I really appreciate. Overall, the Hatch Baby has been out nightly routine savior and now is giving us even more tools as our little girl grows into toddlerhood. With another baby on the way, it feels like an essential part of our family’s routine. It’s more than just a sound machine, it’s a complete sleep support system, and I can’t recommend it enough.

Excellent Sound, Smart App, and Truly Helpful Sleep Support
We’ve been using the Hatch Rest for several months now, and it’s easily one of the most useful baby products we own. It has become a consistent part of our bedtime routine and has genuinely supported better sleep for our whole household. The sound quality is excellent—gentle, steady, and not tinny like many white noise machines. The range of sounds is thoughtful and practical, and the night light is soft and customizable without being stimulating. I especially appreciate how gradual and calm everything feels, which is exactly what you want in a sleep environment. The app is intuitive and reliable, making it easy to adjust settings, create routines, and make changes without entering the room. That alone has been a game-changer. As our baby has grown, the Hatch has grown with us—we’ve adjusted light levels, sounds, and routines as sleep needs have changed. One standout feature that truly sets Hatch apart is the sleep support built into the app. Having access to an AI sleep specialist chat 24/7 is incredibly helpful for quick questions or reassurance in the moment, and the option to connect with real human sleep specialists during daytime hours adds an extra layer of confidence and support. It makes the product feel like more than just a sound machine—it’s part of a larger sleep system. Beyond functionality, the design is clean and modern, so it doesn’t feel like an eyesore in the nursery. It feels well-made and dependable, not gimmicky. If you’re on the fence, this is one of those products that actually lives up to the hype. It supports healthy sleep habits, adds consistency to routines, and brings real peace of mind. Would absolutely purchase again and recommend to any parent building a sleep-friendly environment.

Sorry, 3 strikes and you’re out.
I am currently on hatch number 3. I had the old one that wasn’t WiFi, it worked for about a year then started having issues with the sound cutting in an out or the sound getting lower randomly. My kids do not sleep in my room so I would notice it when I was putting them to sleep or walk in in the morning when they wake up and the sound would be so low it was almost in audible then after a couple seconds it would turn back up (no wonder my kids would wake up randomly in the middle of the night.) When I had kid number 2 I got the new one (WiFi) and I really don’t like it. When there is issues with the WiFi I can’t change it (like with thunder storms) and if a power surge happens or power goes out for longer than 5 seconds, the 2nd gen (WiFi one) won’t turn back on (1st gen will) so I hafta sneak into my kid’s room to turn it back on or wait another 10 minutes for the WiFi to start working again (in the meantime, my kids wakes up again so I can’t sneak in and turn the machine back on). Now about 4 months after having the 2nd gen, it is having the same issues as my 1st gen but the sound is cutting in and out. I will turn it on while nursing my daughter and the sound will stop for 2-3 seconds, turn on again, stop for a second, then back on (sounds like a record skipping). This will happen 5 or so times while I’m feeding her then I put her to sleep and leave so not sure how often it does it in the middle of the night but when I come in to feed early in the morning, it will still be doing it. So I contacted hatch and since it was under the 1 year warranty, they sent me a new one so I replaced it with my 1st gen, cuz that one isn’t under warranty and it doesn’t work at all. So now I have 2 2nd gen, one is refurbished that I got for the warranty. I’ve had the refurbished one for about 2 weeks and once again just like my other 2nd gen the sound is cutting in and out all the time. It is actually starting to scare my 2 year old and he will be afraid to go to sleep when it does it and wakes up crying in the middle of the night. I’m to the point now where I just want my money back and I think I’ll try a different brand. I am giving it 2 stars because the ease of use is great (when the WiFi is on) and I love the light settings as well as customer service is great (yes they did give me a new one free of charge, but again, it doesn’t work…). I have it for the sound machine abilities, which consistently is not working. 2 brand new ones and 1 refurbished and they all have the same issue. Will be contacting costumer service yet again but really disappointed with all 3 hatches that I have had over a 2 year period.
