Head wiggles after one camping trip
Excellent cutting edge, nice and polished look is a plus, and the hickory handle feels great in use. My only gripe is that the axe head began to have a wiggle after only a few chops. Its very slight, but a heavy-use tool like this will eventually wear down and deform with a loose fit like that. I'm not sure what I can do about it either... the axe comes with a spare wedge for fitting a new handle on, but since there is already a wedge in this handle, I can't just add the second one. I'm bummed- this likely will cut the lifespan of my hatchet short.

Does what it’s supposed to do.
Great little hatchet. Well made. Cute but heavy duty . Good sheath comes with it. Good for camping. Nice as the gourmet brands. But cost a lot less .

Great axe. Although I didn’t receive my sheath.
No sheath as the description said “came with”

After my upgrades it's a pretty great small pack axe
I sanded the handle and applied truck bed liner to the handle. Totally non slip grip.It needed some touch-up to make both bevels on the blade equal. And sharped it up some.Installed a braided leather lanyard. Just cuz I like it better than the little single strand lanyard that was on it.

Works fine -- but nothing too special
I have several camping hatchets and got this one for some friends who had come on a trip with us one weekend. While it splits wood decently and the head seems to be made of fairly hardened steel (I've encountered some truly terrible, cheap hatchets before made from soft steel), I'm not impressed with the handle. I'm not sure what kind of wood it is, but it's suspiciously lightweight, wide-grained, and glossily varnished. It's the one thing about this hatchet that I don't expect to last very long, particularly after a couple of missed swings. But we'll see.Otherwise, the presentation and the sheath are both nice; for the price, this is a good "starter" piece, or like I've done, a gift for your city-slicker friends who would only use it occasionally. If you're looking for a real hatchet, though, and you don't mind spending more, get a Fiskars Norden or even an Estwing.

Packable, functional, beautiful
The fit and finish on this little hand axe is nice. The entire head is polished and is coated in what appears to be some kind of lacquer, likely to protect it from rust during transport and storage; fine by me, but I can’t wait for that coating to completely wear away, to leave behind the beautifully polish head. The handle also has a lacquered finish, which I scraped and sanded away, then took a blowtorch to it to make the color in the wood grain pop, and treated it with boiled linseed oil. The wood underneath is solid and has a nice straight grain running from top to bottom. The only downside is that the pattern is side-to-side, whereas front-to-back would be stronger. Overall, still a good handle. A spare metal wedge was included. There is also a leather blade cover that snaps, which is always good to have.Out of the box, the blade is sharp enough that you could chop with it, but dull enough that you might have issues trying to cut at anything. Depending on your likings and use, this is fine, or not, but it will certainly benefit from a good sharpening. If you’re the type that likes an axe to be sharp enough to shave hair, you can indeed get edge to that point with a little bit of work. I used the diamond side of a Fällkniven DC4 to rough up the edge a little, then went at it with a ceramic side until it smoothed out, and was sharpened to my liking. I don’t need an axe to be hair-popping sharp, but I like them to be on the verge of that, where the edge will definitely bite.Overall, this axe is fine as is out of the box, but with a little work, you can make it even better. I haven’t experienced the head loosening up at all, and I expect this tool to remain solid and reliable. So far, it’s definitely on par with, if not slightly better than, some of the offerings within the same price range from other common small axe brands.

Looks good, is functional, and is excellent value for the price
Most factory mirror-polished axes are just for looks. That is not the case with this axe. A mirrored polish on the axe head will help prevent rusting and make the care for the axe easier for anyone new to axe care. The axe head is fitted to the handle very well, not loose at all.I would have preferred a hickory handle, but ash is almost as good for a handle... second-best, in my opinion, but I will leave that debate for another day. Regardless of what type of wood you prefer, most people will agree that the direction of the grain is essential; the grain should run from front to back when looking at the bottom side of the handle. The axe I received is slightly off from straight front to back, but it is very close. I have medium size hands, and the shape fits me well. The leather sheath is a standard sheath but well-made and serves its purpose.Overall, if you are looking for a factory axe, you can’t go wrong with this one.
