Plagued by Factory Process Issue
Great spec, and decent enough machine...Unless you want to actually add a second SSD to it or replace a depleted battery.Bought as good spec matching what I needed for work, got it and went to add the second SSD and when doing so as always went to pull the battery pack for safety.Found out as similar to a lot of the FX706 run and some other Asus options during 2021 they had threadlocked the battery screws and also the secondary M2 mounting post.If you get one without that issue then it's a great machine, but unfortunately there is a whole pile of us that didn't.Mine went back and thanks to no replacement units available cost me another £400 to get the 2022 version since I needed a new machine for work after a temp sensor on the previous work machine had faulted and I didn't have time to muck about waiting for a sale. All in all, good machine if you don't get one of the many duff batch runs that it seemed plagued 2021 for threadlocking and other issues.Camera is 2 stars because the 2021 model shipped with a really weird non-HD camera that wasn't great for colour values and had weird brightness fluctuation issues.

Best bang for the buck.
ASUS TUF FX706HMThis has to be one of the best mid-range gaming laptops, I have had it for about 2 weeks at the time I am writing the review and these are my opinions:The screen is pretty good for the untrained eye, the refresh rate is amazing; the keyboard has a good feel to it with little to no flex, the mousepad is also brilliant. Overall the build is pretty strong even though it's plastic. The battery life is also great with about 6 hours of streaming and scrolling social media, I have not tested the gaming performance while on battery as it is not made for gaming on battery power.Overall performance has exceeded my expectations, the RTX 3060 is powerful enough for most of the recent games, helped by the i7 and the 16gb of DDR4 alongside the m.2nvme SSD. Not a heavy gamer myself but i have played GTA V maxed out, Hitman 3 and FH5 and I have not seen less than 65 fps which is more than playable. The speakers are pretty good but they're only laptop speakers so don't expect much. The cooling side of things is something to consider when buying this laptop, the laptop stays really cold but it is quite loud, have not seen the laptop go more than 80C, so I have purchased a proper cooling pad and that solves the issue(kinda?) still a bit loud but way cooler.I am really pleased with the laptop and the performance and I strongly recommend it. Possibily one of the best options in this price range as I have been in the market for a laptop for the past month and a half.Later edit: After a few months of owning the laptop the wi-fi stopped working, tried updating the drivers, reinstalling the Windows, everything. Laptop went back to Amazon for repairs.

Acer TUF FX706HM, running 60 FPS stable for most games
Acer TUF FX706HM,17.3" Full HD IPS 144Hz display,Intel Core i7-11800H 2.3 GHz (24M Cache, up to 4.6 GHz, 8 Cores),Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 6GB,16GB DDR4-3200 RAM,1TB SSD M.2 PCIe 3.0 (NVMe),with 90 watt battery therefore NO extra third SATA slot for SSD disc.I had to reinstall windows a few times, with Windows/Settings/Reset PC it is easy and fast. It's best to get second M.2 SSD to clone your first disc with Windows installation, and then playing with reinstalls. Bit of an issue with Asus Armory Crate. Got one game that won't run and crushes, Phantom Doctrine, even that it runs OK on slower laptops with Intel integrated graphics.

Reliable and fast.
I knew of ASUS for a long time, but never thought of getting one. But, I bought their gaming laptop - and it is really good! It starts up really fast, almost never crashes. This laptop can easily keep open many tabs in my browser, AND, also run a very RAM demanding game I play at the same time. The screen is good, video is good (Netflix), it has a large area where you can rest your palms on. Mousepad is good, and it has the left and right button. And it has a backlit keyboard, and you can choose the colour too (blue for me right now).I am very happy with this laptop.

Great value and performance, but it runs very hot
I think for the price that this is a very good value laptop. It gives great gaming performance, has a decent amount of fast storage and the screen isn't too bad at this price. It is pretty straightforward to remove the rear cover to gain access to the RAM and m.2 slots, allowing upgrades and an additional drive to be fitted. However, don't expect to be gaming at the 144hz refresh rate. The CPU will run very hot (over 100°C) and thermal throttle. Even at 60hz this is an issue. The RTX 3060 remains at fair temperatures, but the cooling solution Asus have used is just not good enough for the i7 CPU to keep up. With the fans running full speed the laptop isn't too noisy, which is nice. For best performance it will require the mains power to be connected, though this is fairly standard with any laptop.Quite a lot of bloatware included with the Windows installation. Some of this is useful for adjusting settings, as the BIOS is somewhat lacking for options. It does mean that there are a lot of background applications running. A clean Windows installation is possible but not straightforward.Overall though, it is a good laptop and I'm happy with it as a mobile gaming device.
