If you're deciding to buy or not like I was, here are few points. This is not an A/C. Don't expect it to cool of room or make ski slope snow. It is personal desk fan. Once you accept that, you can decide if you want it. I like it and I'm not disappointed.First let say that evaporative cooling is a myth. It does exist in theory, but in real life is totally inefficient.What you get is a mini humidifier and desk fan with the added benefit of vapor mist. The vapor mist is the part to experiment with. Freezing the filter did not show any help. Keeping it wet is just fine. The reason is that in hot room ice melts right before your eyes. That also applies to water in the reservoir. Standing water warms up rather quick in a hot room and defeats the cooling idea. So the solution that seem to help is filling the reservoir with just enough water to keep it from running dry. Maybe quarter of the tank or less, and keep adding ice instead of water. Seating in front of fan in hot weather feels good, and keeping the water cold makes cooler breeze. You can also put little bottle cap with scent inside the unit and have room freshener. My favorite is peppermint oil. I run it at low since the fan is noisy on high setting and I want just a breeze, not a tornado.When it becomes really hot I turn on A/C, but for spring weather that fluctuates from hot to cold this thing is just fine.

The media could not be loaded. I bought this item, because I wanted to avoid using my A/C at night. It cooled my bedroom, (approximately 11X12 sq. ft.), very nicely until the water ran out, but the room remained cool until morning being still on. It is a good little item, (I bought three because they were on sale at the time for $9.99), but the one used for literally one night was nonfunctioning by morning, (defective item: see video). The other two: one made a odd noise and the other one I did not even bother, after looking up that the replacement cartridge cost is $12.99 plus tax plus $4.99 shipping, www.arcticairfilter.com and it would have defeated the bargain.Overall, I give it three ⭐⭐⭐ for the coolness, but one star on the cartridge replacement after three months, (shorter if used longer I suppose), it does leak from the bottom, (I took a Ziploc® bag, placed a wash cloth on top and then the item not damage my wood dresser with water stains), there is quite a bit of condensation, buttons stopped working, and it was loud for such a little item.I hope this review helped you. 😉 Thank you! So I was super excited to use these bought one for my room and another for my son’s room. Worked out great in the beginning. Got these beginning of April. It’s July now and they are both leaking and barely cool the room down. I put them on top of a tall bookshelf in my son’s room so he couldn’t get them. They never moved but I went to turn it on and noticed the towel underneath it was soaking wet. I turned it on and sure enough it leaked out water. On the highest setting it seemed to take a while to cool down my son’s room. I only used distilled water as that is what you are supposed to use for humidifiers not regular tap water. I’m a nurse this is the info to me by a well known pediatrician. I feel like these were a huge let down. I only ran them at bedtime. Also the lights are very bright in no way are they nightlights. I went back to using just a regular circulating fan in my son’s room as well as mine. Very disappointed. Not worth the money. Wish I could return them.

It has a very weak fan, and is less an evaporative cooler and more just a fancy mister. The effects can only be felt within a few inches of the device. A sneezing monkey would cool you off better.

Comparing the negative reviews to the positive reviews to my own experience, it's pretty clear that most of the people giving this thing a bad review didn't realize what they were actually buying. This will NOT air condition your entire house. It's basically just a small fan that blows colder air than a regular fan at you. Like regular fans, that means will not cool off your entire house or apartment, but it will keep the area in front of it cool.And it's amazing! We put it on the ottoman in front of the couch while watching tv, and having a regular floor fan behind us with this thing in front was way cooling, much better than the fan by itself. It's not going to replace an actual air conditioner on a super hot day, but it's got just enough cooling power to be really helpful if you can't use an a/c (maybe because you live in an apartment and technically aren't allowed to have one, or you can't afford to buy one because yiiiiikes they're expensive). But it's really helpful for if a fan just isn't enough to cool you down.Also because of its small size, I find I prefer using it to fans when it's a little cooler out. Sometimes fans are obnoxious, they're loud, they blow things over, but this little thing doesn't have the blowing power to knock all your papers off your desk like a big floor fan does. I like to just have it on the ottoman blowing on my propped-up feet. It's supreme.I see some people complaining about how you can't turn the lights off, but you can. You need to keep hitting the light button, you have to cycle through all the light options but there's an "off" option at the end of them. The lights that indicate what settings are on don't turn off, but they're really minor - like, they aren't really bright.I especially like that this thing is small enough that it won't be hard to store somewhere in winter when it presumably won't be needed, unlike those big oscillating fans which are awkward to find a place for.Cons: On the highest settings it's kind of noisy, but it's a steady noise level so it's easy to learn to tune out and turn the tv volume up over.Also the plug for it gets EXTREMELY hot after it's been on. I don't think it's necessarily a fire hazard, but I would give it a few minutes after you turn it off before you unplug it from the wall.All in all, if you know what to expect from this little guy, you will really enjoy it and appreciate it. Don't go into this thinking it's a $35 air conditioner that will put your entire home into the arctic circle. It will give a nice cold blast to the area about 6 feet in front of it, which cools more efficiently than a fan but isn't as effective as an actual air conditioner. This guy is an air *cooler*.Side note: You're encouraged to put ice cubes in the fill thing, and it can take an entire tray of ice cubes to fill it up!Edit: One year later and it's still great and I am still genuinely baffled by all the negatives. This thing got me through some nearly 100 degree days. It does NOT leak if you use it correctly other than some condensation drips, which iirc it does mention can happen. I really truly do not understand the bad reviews, like people were expecting this thing that's smaller than a CD player to cool their entire homes all day by itself??
