The Bradt Guide to Uganda, now more than 500 pages long, is the definitive travel handbook to this wonderful but oft-neglected destination, not only providing comprehensive background information to its varied national parks, towns and other cultural attractions, but also including detailed reviews of the ever-growing selection of world-class lodges and budget hotels that service them. Uganda boasts the most varied – and arguably the most exciting – safari circuit in Africa. The lush montane forests of Bwindi protect the world's largest remaining population of mountain gorillas, many of which have become habituated to tourists and can be tracked to within a few metres on foot. Elsewhere, Queen Elizabeth National Park, set below the snow-capped Mountains of the Moon, is renowned for its tree-climbing lions and abundant buffaloes. Elephants abound in Murchison Falls National Park, coursed through by a dramatic stretch of the White Nile dense with hippos, crocodiles and waterfowl, while Kibale Forest offers superb chimpanzee tracking as well as the opportunity to see ten other monkey species in their natural jungle habitat. For birders, an astonishing checklist of more than 1,000 species – in a country similar in size to Great Britain or the state of Oregon ¬– includes dozens of Western rainforest specials difficult to see elsewhere, as well as the iconic great blue turaco and shoebill. Philip Briggs is the world's foremost writer of guidebooks to Africa. He has been exploring the continent's highways, byways and backwaters for over 30 years. Review: You'll be beyond safe with it! Everything you need and some extra info to learn about the country - Absolutely detailed, you can manage anywhere in Uganda with it. Im a solo female traveler on a budget doing some work here and taking weekends off not using any tourism company and got tremendous benefit from the public transport and accomodation information in little towns. Some buses stops in Kampala are now out of date but the companies and schedules are pretty much the same so you can still find them by asking. Review: Indispensable - This superbly written book is informative in things large and small, and I can’t imagine planning a trip to Uganda without it. Now that I’m in Uganda, I’m seeing that the writeups of the places I’ve gone have been spot on, written from a place of knowledge and understanding. And the sidebars provide valuable context and history. This is among the best guidebooks I’ve ever encountered, and I’ve used a lot.

I found it useful for some things
I used this as a reference as I traveled. I did not read it in advance of my trip. I found it useful for some things. I visited three national parks and trekked gorillas. The guidance was spot on. I spent a week in Kasese visiting a clinic and schools. Her I found the guidance less useful. The food was different and poor by US standards. The saving grace was the number of Indian dishes on menus. Buffets, however, left a lot to be desired Tipping was different than in other places and this helped. Bottom line, this is a third world country and white people are assumed to be rich. Having a personal guide was very valuable.

Best guide there is - like most Bradt guides
Best guide there is - like most Bradt guides. If you are going to Uganda, this is the book to get - it is almost a year old now - so the information is still current. Highly recommended.

Best info for Uganda
4 stars may be a bit generous, but you've got to give them credit for actually making a guide book about Uganda. As far as I know there aren't any other guidebooks dedicated just to Uganda. It's thorough (maybe overly so - a little bulky for a country of this size) - but gave us decent info and background. As for visiting the country itself - wonderful country with beautiful, lush scenery, tracking the gorillas will be something i'll never forget.

Excellent guidebook
This is the guide for Uganda. I have travelled much of the country and apart from a very weak North West Nile section is always useful on trips.

Super et encore d'actualité en 2018 !
Top.
