I found that the plastic hair ties were much too difficult to remove from my grandchild's very curly hair. They often ended up knotted-in so bad that I needed to cut them out. These hair ties, by contrast, are soft and stretchy. They hold the hair in place beautifully and they are VERY easy to remove. I would also think that they are safer than the plastic, rubber-band type ties, which could be dangerous if swallowed. These are more of a substantial hair tie made of a cotton-terrycloth type of material. I would think a child would be less likely to try and swallow these.

These hair ties are nice, more of a swimsuit type fabric that has a lot of spring to it and are more robust than what I usually get at the grocery store. I use them for keeping my thread spools in order. I use Gutermann Mara 100/120 (all purpose) thread and the spools don't have a way to secure the end of the thread. These are an affordable way to keep everything in order but not cause a dent in the spool. As the spool is used I can double up the tie and the package they come in a useful container.
