Parts of the board is magnetic, but not strong enough to stick to a refrigerator or whiteboard. It's a cute calendar though.

Q: Do you have to hang this with the hook/string, or can it attract magnetically to a refrigerator?

You need to hang itwith something else. The attract magnetic is just for the pieces. I like this calendar and my son likes too.
