Cole & Mason Derwent Grinder Set - Precision Mechanisms and Sea Salt and Peppercorns - Derwent Salt and Pepper, Stainless Steel

This salt and pepper grinder is top of the line! It's stylish, functional, easy to use and well worth the money. Very easy to use, grinds Peppercorns effortlessly, has a large capacity. I do particularly love the look of it, to be honest, and would have been willing to pay more.

Update: I received a refund from the seller due to the item's condition, which was very generous - great customer service. I think I can comment on the quality of the grinder now and ignore the shipping issues (in the old review below). Updated Review: Build Quality: 4.5/5, plastic barrel knicks this down from 5/5. Feels sturdy in the hand. Aesthetics: 4.5/5, again a slight downgrade due to the plastic. Otherwise it looks and feels nice. Action: 5/5, Grinds a LOT of pepper per turn. Feels smooth. The grind sizes are very good - the finest size is very fine. It is easy to change grind size. A quality product. My only complaint was how it was shipped, hopefully they change that in the future. The pepper grinder was shipped in an envelope with no packaging, so it arrived damaged. Since it was just in the envelope with no protection, it fell apart in transit. The central axel that turns the grinder is bent out of alignment due to shipping damage - it still works, I think, but it is not in new condition. Also, it was full of pepper when it was shipped, so the pepper fell out in transit and it and the various parts of the grinder scratched the stainless steel. All the pepper was just loose in the shipping envelope, but I wasn't necessarily planning on using it anyway - I'm more concerned about the damage to the item. It seems like a decent grinder, but I paid $50 for it and it arrived in essentially used, slightly damaged condition.

It was time to replace my first Cole and Mason Pepper grinder I bought over 5 years ago. It was starting to skip while grinding. I looked at it. My husband took it apart. It didn't help. I groaned when I realized I was going to have to buy a new one. My search started about 6 months ago. I wanted the same Cole and Mason pepper grinder. The problem was there were many of the model I had around. I was having a kitchen tool party and decided to purchase a different brand through the party. It was expensive. It lasted less than 6 months before it stopped grinding. This is how I remember grinders. Breaking very easily. I ordered a different model of Cole and Mason grinders next. The problem was though it was adjustable, it was only adjustable by turning the top knob. It didn't really change the grind much. The insides were also small. I returned it. I didn't want to spend a ton of money on a grinder but then saw this one. It looked like what I wanted. This has the plastic barrel where the pepper/salt are kept. It is adjustable by turning the dial close to the bottom of the grinder. I decided to give it a try. This is just what I was looking for. The barrels hold enough salt or pepper that I am not constantly filling it. I can see inside so I know exactly how much is in each of them. They are beautiful. Something I like to put on the table. I can adjust the grind by using the dial near the bottom of the grinder instead of the knob on top. The pepper grinder: It comes set at 3. This is a perfect grind for me. It is easy to turn. I do find that when I try to grind very fine on 1 or 2, the turning is stiff and more difficult. Take the setting all the way to the max and the grind is coarse. The salt shaker: I have this set at 3 also. This is a fine grind. I think a little finer than table salt. Anything below that is more like a powder.

This is the best pepper mill I've ever owned. I usually get no-named brands at a home goods store and they were never very good. This Cole & Mason one puts out more pepper in one twist than my old one did is 30+ twists. It cost a bit more than I'm use to paying, but this mill puts out, so I'm very happy with my purchase.

The grinders are attractive, but more importantly, they do a good job of turning whole peppercorns and chunks of salt into a dusting of seasoning for food. You can even adjust how finely you’d like the grounds to be. I do wish the clear parts were glass instead of plastic. I am becoming more aware of how plastics are entering my body via food and am concerned about the effects that will have on my health. Still, these grinders are a step - or more - above other grinders I have used.

These are a very nice salt and pepper grinder set! They come with salt and pepper corns in them. They are well made and great quality. I have had mine for 6 months now with no complaints!

A little pricey but is smooth with 5 adjusts.

This was a replacement for a previous Cole & Mason Pepper Mill that finally expired. Mill works as expected, it was a little difficult to turn initially but once in was broken it worked fine. FYI, it was filled with approximately 30% pepper when received.

Having never spent more than £20 on these things, I broke out into a cold sweat when my better half suggested these. Once I had calmed down, I had the light bulb moment, the reason for needing new ones was my previous approach meant they never lasted. Anyway a few weeks in and these are without doubt the best mills we've ever had, solid build, consistent grind, no mess and they look great. Spend the extra, they are worth it.

Estamos encantados con el producto, no solo luce muy elegante, sino que también funciona perfectamente y con toda facilidad. Apenas giras un poco y sale la sal y pimienta triturados muy uniformemente y además el ajuste de fino o grueso es super preciso. En la posición mas fina es verdaderamente fino, y la mas grande deja los pedazos bastante grandes pero también uniformes. El resultado es que siempre puedes usarlo exactamente como prefieras y de forma muy sencilla.

I own another style of grinder by this brand, and since my other cheaper grinders just broke, I went looking for something by Cole and Mason. Their grinders are the best quality. They are easy to fill and easy to operate, and their mechanisms are very durable. I know these are expensive and that is why I hesitated for a few days before purchasing, but after reading countless reviews and comparison shopping on other sites I went with these. There only ever seemed to be cheap quality or high quality, nothing in the middle, and I decided instead of replacing cheaper ones every few years, I would just buy the good ones. My other set has lasted about 6 years so far without a hint of concern, whereas I’ve replaced the cheaters sets twice already. I believe these will last a lifetime. And they are pretty :)
