Optimus Prime - Good Model Minor Issues 3.5 Stars
Good, Sturdy pieces. Tools and a hard copy of the instructions are included. Instructions are largely pictorial, so not difficult to follow. Notes are in Chinese. Google translate in camera mode worked well to decipher the text.Good stainless steel 'L' pieces. The bigger pieces have a semi-mirror finish. No oil from the manufacturing process. Easy to handle.Enough spare nuts and screws.Pictorial instructions are easy to follow. The instructions are for the weapon, left limbs (arm and leg), head and the body. For the arms and legs, build the left and legs side by side, so they can be mirror images and checked quickly. Will save from confusion, of course keep two separate trays for each limb. While assembling the arms, (Stage 13, Hand) assemble step 5 and then step 4. Easier than dealing with a floppy piece and small screw and nut (2 mm nut). While assembling the head (Stage 17) in the last step (step 3), add another piece for D2 to make an U-like structure. If left as in the instructions, the head cannot be fixed tight, it will be flopping around. Stage 20 S2.5 screw (lock nut type) had to be filed down to make the end piece stand up straight. I did not have a 'normal 2.5 mm nut.Stage 21, is the shoulder joints. It is symmetrical. Invert the screw configuration on one of the sides. It uses Metric 4 mm nuts. Get a normal nut as the lock nut cannot be tightened properly when inside. If one uses the provided nuts and follows the instructions as such, mounting the arms to the body tightly is not possible, as there will be no space to use the 4mm socket or even sneak in the pliers.Stage 23 is the waist piece. Tighten it and tighten it more and more. It might appear tight, but once assembled, the weight of the upper body will make it flop back and forth and to the sides.Parts FP were missing. I am guessing they are silicone flat washers. Can be assembled without them, except for stage 29. Use the bigger 4mm metal washer. Again on Stage 29, tighten the pieces (2X) more as they are the hip joints.Assembly of the body was a PITA. Stage 22, the pieces I1 in step 2have to be put inside the edges of the I1 piece from step 1. They will not be straight in line on the inner edges. They have to be mounted like that to make Stage 26 holes to align properly. I had to dismantle the body to correct the issue. Due to this, I did not use Stage 21, which is a PITA to make the I1 pieces to align. Without Stage 21, cannot use it as a cell phone holder. Anyway, I had no intention of using a $120 toy to support my more expensive cell phone. Finally, tighten and re-tighten all pivoting joints on arms, legs, hips, waist, neck and shoulder. The model will be stiff to pose, but lot stabler. The provided socket wrench stripped out on the 2mm socket at about half way through the assembly. YMMV.Photos of assembled parts (uploaded photos sequence changed by Amazon system)1. Filed off screw on the head2. Legs3. Size comparison4. Head joint for proper mounting5. Weapon6. Fully Assembled7. WOW! It's reminiscent of a Harryhausen armature!
Solid quality, fun build. It came with all of the tools I needed.I haven't tried it yet, but it looks like the phone charger will fit nicely without crimping it.It's what I think a Ray Harryhausen stop motion armature would move and feel like.Love it!

High quality!
This is one of the coolest models I've ever built! Even the packaging is really cool and high quality, they even give some nice sturdy tools to use. It's decently easy to build if you're experienced with tools and model building. It works great as a cell phone holder and is even sturdy enough to hold my Galaxy Tab S7 with the case on it too. VERY COOL, I can't wait to put LED lights on it! I highly recommend this!

Fun for an experienced builder, but not for the faint-of-heart nor novice.
Cool robot kit, but experience and problem-solving is needed to assemble this without better instructions. All the words are in Chinese, and among these were probably instructions to build mirror-image assemblies for the arms and legs. Pay very close attention to the orientation of the parts in the pictorial directions. Some assembly work requires three hands, and you must determine how to hold some nuts, in tight places, with the pliers, as fingers won't fit. Some reviewers report there are English directions available, but I couldn't find them, so I was glad when I finished, if for no other reason than being able to rest my brain. Four hours? No way.
