Cables DO matter and these 6->8 pin adapters work right. Do not heat up like cheapos I got elsewhere
I have some HP Z-series workstations. These have beefy 1150W power supplies, but only three 6 pin power cables (no 8-pin). The 6 pin cables run over 150W per cable, though, unlike most system (in other words, they are way more powerful than the nominal spec).Anyway, modern video cards all require 6+8 or 2x8 power adapters. What to do? Well, the easy thing is to use a 6-> 8 pin adapter. Since the power supply on the HP is sending well over the 8-pin spec along that rail, it's no problem.I first tried some budget cables I got off an auction site. They look great, and the wire casings are nice and thick, but as soon as I put stress on the video card, they got VERY hot. Cutting one open reveals very thin wire. No good.So I got these Cable Matters cables. They actually aren't much more expensive than the cables they are replacing. And these work GREAT. The cables do not heat up at all, even under full stress load. Nice.I will only use these cables from now on.

Works perfectly
My 430W power supply has only one PCIe connector and it has 6 pins. But my GTX 950 video card (I know it’s old but hey it works) has a 8 pin power connector. This little adapter made it work. I’m happy.

these work great for my Dell Inspiron desktop
I upgraded the power supply in my dell inspiron desktop to support a GPU, however the power supply only had an extra 6 pin cable, and the GPU had an 8 pin power cable. I bought these and they work perfectly!

Life saver
Upgraded my GPU from a 1650 to 4060 and didn't know it was 8-pin only while my PSU only has a 6-pin. The computer didn't even recognize the GPU, I was so upset! After an embarrassingly long time looking for solutions, I figured I should just spend the $10 on an adapter cord. Got it in 2 days, plugged it in easily with no problems with the connection or quality of the wires, hooked up my monitor to the GPU and after opening my driver's and refreshing, I swear I heard the hallelujah chorus as the 4060 appeared under my drivers. I booted up FFXIV to test it and the difference was like night and day. Well worth the $10 and you get two of them!

Perfect!
Perfect for installing a video card that requires 8 pin power connectors and your PC only has 6 pins.

They worked, nothing blew up
I needed the adapter to upgrade my nephews PC from an RX480 to a GTX1070. I ordered these and they arrived the next day. I was a little concerned about whether this adapter would deliver the power consistently since we're not adding more rails, just splitting existing rails.Upon installing them, after a strange glitch on the initial boot, the PC started back up without any problems, seemed to work just fine. Time will tell how they hold up, I certainly wouldn't install these on a GPU I couldn't afford to replace pretty easily, but they seem to do the trick. The only things you may have an issue with are cosmetic, they're ugly, but if you're using one of these you probably weren't doing an aesthetic build anyhow.

bargain and exceeded expiations
i tested the thermals on an overclock 7900xt even after hours of game play no voltage loss issues!

Works
I was a little nervous using one of these to convert a 6 pin plug from my computer’s power supply to 8 pin, but it’s been working like a charm. (Probably helps that it’s a high quality PSU, just a little older.).
