It's Okay If You Use the Lithium Battery -- and you can figure out how to use the unit itself
Three stars from me for the lack of instructions, which could really endanger someone. If it weren't for MadMax's review, I might still be trying to figure this thing out.STRENGTH OF LIGHT: I tested the light in my garage using 3 AAA batteries and was not impressed. Testing it in my back yard after dark yielded a much better impression, but I think I'd prefer a stronger light. The farther I can see in the dark the better.EASE OF USE: A bit of trial and error is definitely necessary: The first press of the red button on the handle turns the unit on. With each ensuing "light click" or "half click," it moves to another type of light (SOS, etc.)Since the various types of light always go in the same order, it will be possible to figure out the number of half clicks required to QUICKLY get to the desired type of light. That's important to know for women who travel alone and -- heaven forbid -- may have to quickly engage the strobe light to disorient an attacker.BATTERIES: The accompanying lithium batteries (there are 2) will have to be charged before use. They are clearly marked + and -. The + end goes at the end of the charger where the light is, but you will have to first push back the metal "tab" in order to insert the battery.I'd keep backup AAA batteries with this unit -- just in case. The unit requires 3. There's a separate piece that holds the 3 AAA batteries. It's poorly marked + and -, but it is marked. Once the 3 batteries are in place, insert the piece into the flashlight -- arrow tips/silver tip first. You'll understand this when you see the piece; there are three arrows on it and a silver tip.CLEAR PLASTIC TUBE: The clear plastic insert is for the lithium battery, NOT AAA batteries. When inserting the lithium battery, first put it into the plastic tube and then insert it, + end first, into the flashlight.I will probably end up giving this unit to my techy grandson -- if I can find one that is more suitable for my purposes at a reasonable price.BOTTOM LINE: It's okay -- once you figure out how to use it and if you use the lithium batteries rather than the 3 AAA's.

Works as Advertised but no Instructions
Flashlight is intense and beam is adjustable. I've only used this item with the rechargeable batteries. The only negative comment I have is that this item came to me with no instructions. I contacted the seller and they sent me instructions via email on how to insert the batteries into the flashlight and the charger. When dealing with rechargeable batteries it is "normally" important to know a) which end of the battery should be inserted first into the flashlight and b) how to insert the battery into the charger. I've personally had a bad experience trying to charge a battery the wrong way and inserting a battery the wrong way into various electronics. I don't know what would happen if someone inserted the battery incorrectly into this flashlight. I hope it just wouldn't work. I also don't know what would happen if someone tried to and charge it backwards. I'm hoping it just wouldn't charge or there would some indication that the battery wasn't inserted correctly. For those that want to know, when inserting the rechargeable battery into the flashlight, insert the positive end first inside the plastic sleeve that came with the item. For the battery charger please see the attached image.I hope this review helps someone prevent a potentially serious issue.

This is a good flashlight for the price
This is a good flashlight for the price. It appears to be very rugged and all the controls work as advertised. It is not as bright as I thought it might be, but it is bright. I like this item because it uses the same rechargeable lithium batteries as some of my other electronics. It is physically a good size for most applications....not too big or large. The focus adjustment allows the user to select any beam width, a good feature. For most people, this flashlight will work fine.

The unit does not come with any instructions. The zoom feature is not a push pull as per one of the answers. It's a twist. No markings on the battery charger anywhere as to which end is negative or positive. I even looked with a magnifying glass to see, nothing on the charger. The strobe feature I just played around with the on and off until it worked. Does't seem to have any logical way to get it to strobe in an emergency fast, just f with the on and off button.

Did NOT disappoint!
This flashlight was the HIT of our district Cub Scout campout. When walking back, in the middle of pitch black woods, I could highlight trails a football field away! I was worried about downing a plane with this thing! HahaIt's a bit heavier than expected, but feels more sturdy than "heavy". It barely added any weight to my pack.I love that it includes rechargeable batteries, as well as an option for regular batteries, for if your charge runs out.I cannot recommend this product enough! I hope they make a solar version!

One seriously bright little light. With a slight press of the on switch, it will turn on to full blast. which will just blind a person. Another press dims it slightly, and another press dims it a little more. One more press after that puts the light into strobe light function. And then the kicker. If you're into camper this light can be a life saver. After the strobe light function, one more slight press turns the light into an S.O.S. beacon! Just badass. A twenty dollar light that can possibly save your life. Can't beat that.

Let there be light
This is a great compact flashlight. I use it while walking my dog, in the dark, and it helps light up areas where rattlesnakes may be hiding. The only fault I have found is the length of time it takes to fully charge the battery.

good for price
Good for price. Battery spring (for electrical contact) came loose, had to hot glue. Factory needs better method of assembly.
