Great slow cooker. Perfect for first purchase.
We already had one of these slow cookers, unfortunately whilst putting it away one day I dropped it and broke it. I went straight online and purchased the very same version, which speaks for itself how highly I rate it! If you haven't had a slow cooker before and are looking to purchase one I would highly recommend this one. Very simple to use. Three settings high, medium and low. I've only ever used low as i'm more of a chuck it all in and forget about it kind of cook. The pot is more than big enough to take a large chicken (BTW whole chicken is great in this, season or cover in herbs/spices of your choice, place it in the pot, no liquid as it will produce its own when cooking, and cook on low for 10 hours, the most tender and moist chicken ever!) and a stew or curry made in this would feed 4 people with left overs if filled nearly to the top! The non stick metal cooking pot is very non stick, I used my old one loads and it cleaned really easily after every use, no hard burnt or baked on juices at all. I have not used to pot on the hob but it can be used like a pan to sear or seal meat and eliminates the use of another pan. It is also very light and is easy to lift across the kitchen if you want to store it in a cupboard (it is however quite cumbersome storage wise). One word of warning if you do inadvertantly drop this (I wouldn't recommend it and why would you!) The lid shatters into a billion (no exaggeration) tiny pieces. I find this very unsafe, it took two of us a number of hours to rid the kitchen of the glass pieces this left behind when I dropped this as the lid literally exploded and rained glass everywhere. Not a good safety feature. It hasn't stopped me purchasing another one but I think it is worth noting. But then not everyone is as clumsy as me!

fantastic product if you do a lot of batch cooking
i've been searching for one like this for a while.....i had the earlier model with the ceramic insert...this one is just as good..as the headline suggests i do a lot of batch cooking ....currys..chilli...stew etc which i then freeze into meal sized portions when cooled...obviously it depends on your ingredients ...but i've just today made a chilli with 3x750g of lean mince..6 different tins beans ..onions peppers spices etc...the crockpot still had around 2 inches of space from the top down left...i will expect ( based on past cooking ) to get at least 12 to 14 decent meal sized portions from this....so you needn't have any fear on it not being big enough for your requirements.....i cant comment on using the insert to sear or brown the meat as based on some other comments about the non stick coating failing or coming off..i preferred to brown the meat in a saucepan first. can also HIGHLY RECOMMEND the seller...i ordered the cooker on saturday night ....it was delivered the next day around 4pm ish.....also free postage HOWS THAT FOR SERVICE !!!

some recipes I've tried recommend cooking on high for 4 hours so today as ...
Currently able to spend some time on the laptop as this cooker is doing all the work for me! I bought this larger model so that I could make bigger meals to freeze the leftovers and also you can cook a whole chicken it! Haven't tried that yet but looking forward to doing so. As this has a high, medium and low setting I find it gives more of a time frame for you to start cooking. If going out to work all day I can use the low setting for 8 or 9 hours, some recipes I've tried recommend cooking on high for 4 hours so today as I wanted to chuck it all in for 6 hours before dinner I just stuck it on medium. Whether you go slightly over that time the food still doesn't dry out. The inner pan comes out so you can sear the meat on a hob first and it is so lightweight as is the rest of the machine. So easy to clean too. I've noticed a lot of the slow cooker recipes don't need oil so would be good for slimming and I believe there are some slow cooker books specifically aimed at slimmers so may try some of those too

Great capacity for a family
Brought this last week and I have been using it constantly since then. It is great to be able to sear the meet and pre-fry onions in the bowl before you pop it into the cooker and start the slow cooking. The capacity it great I have cooked 4 lamb shanks in it and could have fitted a couple more. It fits a whole chicken too which was great to come back to after a day out. I am looking forward to trying some beef joints in it soon. The only reason for knocking a star off is the pot and lid are not oven safe. I know having a slow cooker means you should not need an oven but sometimes it is nice to be able to pop things in the oven at the end to brown things off a bit more, rapidly reduce the liquid or do some dumplings etc. I could do this with my old slow cooker that I passed on since the capacity was too small.

A must have for a busy family!
I couldn’t live without a slow cooker - with two working parents it is an essential part of our kitchen for making healthy easy meals of an evening. When our slow cooker broke it was time to find a new one. I went for this one because it was slightly bigger than my previous one and with a family of four I felt it was time to upgrade. The slow cooker is so easy to use. It has three settings – low medium or high. You can’t really go wrong from there. We cook so much in it! We load it up in the morning and leave it going while we are out at work. Never had any concerns about leaving it! We always come home to perfectly cooked tasty meals.

Excellent
Excellent buy - especially good that I can sear meat on the hob with it. After 18 months the main body has gone a bit rusty, but the pot itself is still fine and continues to be used. Always easy to clean in dishwasher.

Just buy one
If you don't have one, just buy it. It will change your life. As with most things, despite what some folk say, it doesn't do everything ! But it is very good at what it does. Slow cooked meat just falls apart, soft and juicy. Hams, Chickens, even beefs. The hands off aspect is great; throw everything in, switch it on, come back a few hours later and it's ready. This one is also lightweight, which has it's pros and cons. It is much easier to handle and clean, but I prefer the ceramic bowl for presentation. On the whole; lightweight wins. This is one kitchen gadget that wont find itself buried at the back off the cupboard.
