Slightly too long, way too much spring lift!
1) They don't fit. I have a 199 BMW Z-3 Roadster (convertible), so according to the description, they should have fit. They are just a tiny bit too long, and with the high compression of these cylinders, it is impossible to compress the shock even a little to align the caps on the balls of the hinges. I finally got them on, but I have a bench grinder, and ground off some of the metal of the threaded end of the ball joint caps.2). They are too strong. When opening (again due to the length issue) they open all the way to the hinge stop, thus slamming the hinge all the way open, and when the do, they do so with a lot of force. I ended up using only one of the lifts in combination with one of my old lifts to soften the opening.I saw one post where someone said they couldn't install them because the eyes where the balls go in were not aligned properly. This is NOT an issue, as the shaft will turn (though stiffly) in the cylinder.Suggestion to BOXI: Provide versions that are 1/4" shorter so that they don't slam the trunk all the way open against the hinge stops and provide lifts with less compression!

It works, but check reviews for your make of car.
This review goes out to 2000 BMW Z3 owners. To be fair, I realize the physics can be different, depending on the size of the trunk, that’s why I mention the make of my car.1) My original struts wore out. It became a safety issue after I almost took my finger off when opening my truck on a slope.2) to be fair, I did have some body work done on a back quarter panel.3) one strut fit perfectly, the others, like another gentleman’s review, required me to file down a part of the assembly.4) the thing that really disappointed me is that the force, IS TO DANG MUCH when opening the trunk.5) I’ve trade one safety issue for another, if you are not aware, the trunk can come up way too fast.6) I hope over time, it will become less forceful.I did not return, it worked out, but for a Z3, try something else. Like I said, it may work for your make, just do some research.Update: The force never got any weaker after a break-in period. So I took one of the struts off. This was an acceptable compromise. If you just order one strut and be prepared to use a file, you should be ok.

Easy installation, works like OEM, should have replaced them a couple of years ago. (2000 BMW Z3)

It is what it is, a cheaper alternative to a BMW part. I purchased these to replace BMW struts that I had installed 10+ years ago, and never had any issues with. The locking retainer on these replacements has backed out of one of the struts twice as I was closing the trunk, popping off the hinge and scratching the inside of the trunk lid. You get what you pay for.

One strut out of two did not fit
One strut fit perfectly, and was installed in minutes. The other one did not fit. It was a fraction too short, and after 90 minutes, I gave up.

Quick and easy replacement
Replaced struts on 1999 Z3 and they were a perfect fit. Insalaton was quick and easy, seems a little stiff but diffinetly won’t drop without effort.
